Just finished reading @SimuChigudu's memoir, 'Chasing Freedom' - tore through it in a few days.
Have not read a book that made me THINK and FEEL as much as this in a long time. A brave, beautiful and bracing work by a brilliant writer not afraid to grapple with complexities and contradictions in personal and political life.
I somehow felt more myself after reading it, better able to understand my own life and world after reading what Simukai shared of his.
After 5 years of writing, I just received the proofs of the US version of my book CHASING FREEDOM
“An exquisitely crafted memoir, sweeping from Zimbabwe to Oxford, that lays bare the violent, enduring legacy of colonialism on both a country and a family.”
Out in March 2026.

Sad news of the passing of Judge Taswell Papier. He was genuinely committed to the law serving poor communities and lived that commitment as a lawyer and on the bench.
I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with him when I worked at the @LRCSouthAfrica and he served on its trust.
