According to a commissioner’s office memo obtained by The Athletic, teams were pushing the boundaries of guidelines governing the use of technology by “in many cases” installing custom apps that expanded the use of the iPads “beyond their originally intended purpose to include recommendations regarding substitutions, pitch calling, and other in-game decisions traditionally made by players and coaches.”

MLB wants to make the LA Olympics in 2028 mandatory for chosen players.
Skip out without an approved excuse, and you're on the restricted list without pay and service time for as many as 25 days through Aug. 3 that year — well after the second half begins July 21.
Supposed to be an Olympian, but on the IL? You can't come back to your MLB team or go on rehab until after Aug. 3.
To MLB, however, the holdup in negotiations over the Olympics is the players' demands for tickets and housing.

Kyle Schwarber lost, but Citizens Bank Park shined.
On a sparkling night in Philly, a quiet prep session at Comerica Park and how it all went down:

A very important story about the sandwich many All-Stars eat whenever they’re playing at Citizens Bank Park.
“When you come to Philly, you forget about nutrition,” Freddie Freeman said. “You eat the cheesesteaks in the visiting clubhouse.”

From last night, from me and @TylerKepner:
On the boos and the bombs that made this a HR Derby unlike any we'd ever seen (or heard)

What a stunner. Jordan Walker was down to his last swing in this Derby...
Then hit 6 home runs in his last 6 swings!
He made a lot of Philadelphians unhappy. But he made memories for a lifetime.
Just another Derby round in the life of Kyle Schwarber.
11 HR in his first 15 swings
9 HR in 11 swings at one point
7 HR into the second deck
Does he feed off Philadelphia, or does Philly feed off him?
As we were saying ... Willson Contreras did his best to feed off the boos.
Philadelphia had other ideas.
His biggest cheer of the night: Almost getting drilled by his own BP pitcher during a Home Run Derby.
I don't recall booing being a thing in Home Run Derbies of yesteryear.
Philadelphia just made it a thing in this Derby, roundly hooting everyone in the field who was not Kyle Schwarber or Bryce Harper.
It's on!
Bryce Harper won't advance - but he hit 2 monsters:
One over the batter's eye in CF
The other soaring out beyond the second deck out onto Ashburn Alley, 482 feet
Not the script Bryce wrote for himself, but they'll remember those two in Philly
Those 5 straight outs Schwarber made to start his round had this crowd nervous.
Then he pumped 10 bombs in his next 14 swings - 7 of them into the second deck, because of course he did.
