A former foster mother writes about being part of a child's trauma, and what the migrant children separated from their parents must feel https://t.co/0D2BxpJ24L
Now that the House has voted to make DC a state, which I supported, Congress must pass our bipartisan bill to offer statehood to #PuertoRico. A majority of Puerto Rico residents voted for statehood, which would give the island voting rights, political power, and true equality.

@JoLuehmann@jacobsoboroff I believe in putting survivors of trauma in the drivers' seats of their own narrative, even in fiction. Too often we see these stories only through the lens of the men committing the violence, and we don't pay attention to what's on the flip side of that violence.

I said "American Dirt is a Grapes of Wrath for our time," and I absolutely meant it.
Congratulations to @jeaninecummins! A tremendous achievement.

My favorite, most mind-blowing review yet. From the LA Times: “American Dirt” is a vital, well-crafted, compelling and compassionately told story. With a little luck, it might motivate some critical mass of women to rise up and take back the world.

Today's review in Time makes very happy! "Although Cummins, who married an undocumented immigrant, has written an eminently readable adventure, she doesn’t mine the pain of migrants for entertainment. Rather, she proves that fiction can be a vehicle for expanding our empathy." ❤️
@TIME reviews #AmericanDirt: "The story is masterfully composed of timeless elements: the nightmare logic of grief, the value of human kindness, the power of love to drive us to do the unimaginable." @jeaninecummins
