In honor of Mr. Jeff Dagg, DCS Instructional Coach, who is retiring, Mrs. Finn and Mrs. Haidl painted our storm drains to remind us to take care of the Great Lakes Watershed.
4th grade classes met with members of the Dexter City Council over Zoom to present their tree research. They studied the health of the trees in Peace Park.
To share their place-based learning experiences at Mill Creek Park, some students from the Barnes/Kohler/Hanlon team composed and recorded this song with the one-and-only Joe Reilly! Enjoy!
Home-based K’s are finding joy exploring their identities as scientists by making observations about pumpkins with their senses, asking questions, and supporting their claims with evidence. Excited to see where they go next! @timmischris @ryanbruderk2 @CraigMcCalla24

@mrskernsclass @wylieelem Ha! I started laughing when I saw the banner. I must have done something right; the class applauds whenever I enter the room. It just took 25 years of failing forward.🙂
Today, these amazing second graders presented their learning and plans to install green spaces at @BeaconElem to expert Dr. MaryCarol Hunter, whose work inspired their project! @MaryCarolHunter@JeffKDagg

@blocht574@daveschmittou@mieducation We seem to differ on the term "conference". In my mind, conferences are intended to be PD for educators and not for general public consumption like a beer week. Perhaps a term we could agree on is "community showcase" - where events feature local students and educators?
@blocht574@daveschmittou@mieducation No argument on celebrating education. Fear is that conferences are seen as "the way" to change the system. I'm advocating embedded support within the schools on an ongoing basis. I've seen the fire go out in the eyes of many conference attendees when they get back to reality.
@daveschmittou Collective efficacy comes from building culture within a school or community over time through hundreds or thousands of small interactions. Conference seeds don't take root if the soil back at home isn't ready.
