In an inquiry based activity, learners dissected dried marigold flowers and discovered the seeds inside! 🌼 During the activity, a 1st grade student exclaimed “this is the best day of my life!” We also compared different seeds and then planted the marigold seeds outside. #STEAM
1st graders in STEAM were given this task: just using three pipe cleaners and nothing else, can you make your index card balance off of your desk? I am so impressed by the creativity and perseverance shown by these learners!! 🤩 #STEAM#growthmindset#weareengineers
Some beautiful neurons were drawn by second graders in STEAM this week! 🧠 Learners realized that “we can become smarter by working hard!” is not just a motivational phrase anymore - it’s neuroscience! #growthmindset#STEAM
First week of STEAM is done! Today, 3rd graders learned how our brain is like a muscle, and that choosing to take on a challenge helps us become smarter 🧠💪 As said by one student “this is the coolest thing I ever learned in my life!”#powerofyet#growthmindset#STEAM
We’re moving full STEAM ahead into the 2021-2022 school year! 🧬📱🔬🌱 I’m happy to announce that I’ve been hired as a full time elementary STEAM teacher @ P.S.277 in Brooklyn! I’m looking forward to teaching the next generation of scientists, engineers, artists, & world changers

Giving a special shout out to one of my virtual math students for his super creative @Flipgrid math tutorial video on subtracting decimals ☺️He even used error analysis featuring a puppet (named Joseph!) Part of the full 5 min video is here. Feeling very #MineolaProud
Virtual learners enjoyed making @khanacademy style @Flipgrid videos on their favorite math topic they learned this year to help the incoming 5th graders at @MineolaMS ! #mineolagrows
Virtual 5th grade learners at @MineolaMS loved their field trip to space last week with @Nickelodeon ! 🪐✨ We learned how slime (a non newtonian fluid) behaves both on Earth and in a microgravity environment #VirtualSTEM
Getting to meet some of our @MineolaMS virtual learners in person for the first time today was beautiful in so many ways ❤️ The growth and resiliency these 5th graders showed this year has me feeling incredibly #MineolaProud .
Happy Pride Month 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ As a teacher, I can’t stress enough the importance of creating a classroom and school culture where our LGBTQ+ learners feel seen, safe, and supported. Here is a great resource from @learnforjustice that highlights what to do if a student comes out to you.
Other ways to support LGBTQ+ students include: asking for & using preferred names & pronouns, ensuring that there is LGBTQ+ representation in your curriculum, intervening whenever you see someone using homophobic/transphobic language, & using gender neutral language in your class
