If I work out my hourly rate based on 1 hour per noticeboard, that remaining £21.25 paid me £6.90/hour.

Given that our National Living Wage is £11.44 I honestly don’t see a way that anyone can ever make a reasonable living from crafting! 😱

The cost of crafting!

It’s that time of year that I am hastily sorting out my side-hustle finances ahead of the tax self-assessment deadline. This year’s figures have been truly eye-opening!

For 2023 (Jan-Dec, not the tax year) for each £100 of orders I sold on @Etsy:

💷 27% went to Etsy for transaction & listing fees, plus advertising
🛠️ 46% spent on materials (cost of which have increased hugely over the past year)
🧑‍⚖️ 20% of the remainder goes to HMRC in taxes

So of the original £100, I am left with £21.25.
