A few things have changed:
Pawlenty won with only 47% of the vote, and both Rs and Ds have worked together in recent years to restrict ballot access for 3rd parties in Minnesota. The bar is now higher for us.

Pawlenty didn't have to deal with massive early voting/ballot harvesting on the left.

Dems have stacked 2026 candidates on both the far right and left of their party who will bring moderates and radicals into the voting booth and who will vote D up and down the ballot.

In the Venn diagram on the GOP's matchup of moderates, we will not be engaging the conservative wing of the party. Our candidates target the same group, but leave out the Presidential-Year-Only trump supporters and the Jesse Ventura types. The easiest vote is to get reliable republicans into the voting booths. The hardest and most expensive vote is convincing a democrat to flip to republican.

Klobuchar + Flanagan is the broadest DFL ticket to energize the widest spectrum of DFL voters to turn out. A Lindell + Tafoya team would actually do the same on the GOP side. Lindell people might not be excited to vote for Tafoya but they aren't voting D, and vice-versa. The goal is to get the hundreds of thousands of republicans who vote only in presidential years to turn out this November.
