New @ADL research found a systemic pattern of exclusion and marginalization of Jewish and Israeli artists across American cultural life.
What’s especially disturbing is that many of the very institutions that pride themselves on diversity, inclusion and freedom of expression are contributing to this exclusion. This is exactly the kind of discrimination they should be standing against.

Imagine American music without Barbra Streisand or Bob Dylan. American literature without Philip Roth or Judy Blume. American theater without Neil Simon or Arthur Miller.
Jewish artists have helped shape American culture for generations. Yet today, Jewish and Israeli performers are seeing their shows canceled, filmmakers are being pushed out of festivals, and authors are being told publishers are no longer interested in their work.
That’s why @ADL launched State of the Arts, a first-of-its-kind initiative documenting the systemic exclusion and marginalization of Jewish and Israeli artists across American cultural life.
What an incredible night we had at the @TheJewishMuseum for the launch of @ADL's State of the Arts! Surrounded by artists of all kinds and patrons of the arts - all there to stand up and say enough is enough. Jewish and Israeli voices will not be silenced or pushed out of American cultural life.
Thank you to all those who joined us. I meant what I said last night - this is only the beginning.

As part of our State of the Arts research, @ADL conducted a survey of U.S. adults to better understand how U.S. audiences view Jewish and Israeli inclusion in the arts.
As my colleague @SJGoodman shared, what we found is "a clear and consistent gap between perceived market risk, what Jewish and Israeli authors are being told, and actual audience demand."
Study: A series of reports from the ADL found that Jewish and Israeli artists have been canceled or blacklisted across US cultural institutions.

Musicians dropped from lineups. Authors told to remove Hebrew words or Jewish references from their books or that their Jewish or Zionist identity makes them “too risky” to represent.
New ADL research documents a disturbing pattern: Jewish and Israeli artists are being told that their identity and the work they create are a problem.
Check out ADL’s #StateOfTheArts, a first-of-its-kind research initiative and digital platform documenting the exclusion and marginalization of Jewish and Israeli artists across American cultural life.
Spoiler alert: it's beyond disturbing.
What if being Jewish could cost you your career?
What if an author was told that her book is “too Jewish?”
What if a performer was heckled for mentioning the word “Jewish” on stage or dropped from a lineup simply because of where he was born?
What if a museum had a world class art collection of Jewish and Israeli art but downplayed or buried the Jewish or Israeli context?
@ADL's #StateOfTheArts research found an indisputable pattern of exclusion and erasure of Jewish and Israeli artists across American cultural life. This is what Jewish artists in America are facing right now.
The man accused of plotting an attack on the Texas Capitol reportedly expressed anger at AIPAC and said, “these people have to be exterminated.”
Demonizing AIPAC, denigrating Israelis and disparaging Jewish people puts our community at risk. But as we’ve seen time and again, antisemitism is often part of a broader hateful worldview that puts everyone at risk.
Combating antisemitism is not just a Jewish issue. It’s an American imperative.

Jewish artists are being canceled, blacklisted and pushed out of American cultural life. We knew the situation was bad, but we just didn't know how bad. No one had documented the problem in a systematic manner. Until now.
The new @ADL State of the Arts report offers a series of shocking findings:
- 40 leading museums across the U.S. and not a single one includes Jewish identity among its diversity & inclusion commitments.
- Authors are being told to strip Hebrew words from their works and change Jewish character names just to get published.
- Jewish and Israeli performers are being harassed off stages, dropped from lineups and never invited back.
This is antisemitism, plain and simple. Blocking someone because of their nationality is bigotry, full stop. Canceling someone because of their faith isn't courage — it's cowardice.
The arts and culture sector needs to wake up and stop silencing Jewish voices. Patrons of the arts need to step up and demand, not special treatment, but simply equal treatment for Jewish and Israeli artists. Now is the time.

Deeply moved to see Gola and Yuval Raphael sing side by side. Gola is an exiled Iranian artist who fled the Iranian regime's morality police. Yuval is a Nova survivor. Their collaboration is a powerful symbol of solidarity between Iranians and Israelis.

Grateful for my time at @IUBloomington this week. I spoke with students and staff at the @IndianaHillel Sukkah about their experiences as Jews on campus since 10/7, met with IU President Pam Whitten, Chancellor David Reingold, Interim Provost and Senior VP John Ciorciari, and IU faculty on the forces shaping today's campus climate.
I also participated in a panel alongside US Attorney Tom Wheeler and IU faculty Les Lenkowsky and Gunther Jileki, moderated by my colleague @ADLmidwest's Rebecca Weininger and hosted by @JCCIndianapolis.
Thanks to the Bloomington and Indianapolis Jewish communities for your openness and courage in sharing your experiences. @ADL is proud to stand in partnership with you.
Deeply relieved that the serious security incident aboard a Flydubai flight bound for Israel ended with everyone safely on the ground, thanks to the quick thinking of those who reportedly intervened.
Israeli courage and ingenuity never cease to amaze me, especially in the face of relentless threats and violence against the Jewish state and the Israeli people.
We are closely monitoring the serious security incident aboard the Flydubai flight bound for Israel, and are relieved it ended with a safe landing in Saudi Arabia. As the investigation continues, we commend the courage and quick thinking of those on board who, per reports, helped avert a far worse outcome. Our thoughts are with all passengers and their families as they return home safely. https://t.co/g0DH56NEES
Jewish and Israeli artists are being canceled, blacklisted and pushed out of American cultural life simply because of who they are.

Launching tomorrow 10/1.
A UN body that operates under an automatic anti-Israel majority cannot claim neutrality while handing activists and governments a target list for economic warfare against the Jewish state. Companies, investors and policymakers should reject this politicized pressure campaign.
The @UNHumanRights office has updated its @UN_HRC-mandated database of business enterprises tied to Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. It now names 214 companies, 61 new since last year's update. The database flags companies for ordinary commercial activity, real estate listings, hotel and travel bookings, food and transport services, that any business operating lawfully in the region might perform.
Six public US companies made this year's list, including Airbnb, Booking Holdings, Expedia, Motorola Solutions, RE/MAX and TripAdvisor. @JLensNetwork and ADL have said this database is not neutral human rights work, it is a target list.
This update lands as European governments move to codify trade restrictions against Israel into law, from Ireland's new import ban to proposals in Brussels and Oslo. It will be cited to justify more of the same.
Apparently, journalistic objectivity is now optional at @NYMag: the editors officially adopted "genocide" as house style to describe Israel's war against Hamas.
This is hardly the first time we've seen an anti-Israel mindset and antisemitic bias at New York Magazine.
In the weeks after October 7, NY Mag's own Editorial Director called Israel's war "an attempt to conduct genocide," an utterly ludicrous claim. A 2025 essay in the magazine went even further, using Holocaust terminology to frame the war. It is truly profane to compare the systematic annihilation of six million Jews to a defensive war against a jihadist terror group.
More recently, the magazine published a cover story that erased Jews and Israelis from New York’s own cultural reality. This was a deliberate act of exclusion, not the inclusion it claimed to represent. It was a naked effort to crop our community out of the picture.
Jewish staffers inside Vox raised alarms about this pattern. They reportedly were ignored. Their views were dismissed.
New York Magazine's readers fair, factual coverage. It's not too much to expect stories to be approached with integrity rather than ideology, objectivity rather than dogma. Frankly, this is the bare minimum.
New York Magazine — the ball is in your court.

How can you be a card-carrying true believer of the DSA — an organization that makes anti-Zionism a requirement for membership — and still fight all forms of antisemitism?
Mayor Mamdani refuses to name all the sources of the hate Jewish New Yorkers face.
Security grants do not substitute for moral clarity. A mayor who will not define antisemitism, will not confront terror flags being marched around in Jewish neighborhoods and terror sympathizers at the doorstep of a synagogue, and will not put his own politics aside is not fighting this crisis. He is managing around it.
The mayor’s actions or inactions only serve to help fuel antisemitism in NYC. This “plan” is just further proof.
.@NYCMayor Mamdani's antisemitism strategy finally landed and only confirms what we already knew: this mayor does not treat the hate facing Jewish New Yorkers as an emergency and refuses to acknowledge the different shapes it takes. Since he took office 271 days ago, ADL has recorded hundreds of antisemitic incidents in NYC, nearly 40% of which were related to Israel.
After throwing out the IHRA definition on his first day in office, nine months later, his signature strategy still refuses to replace it with any working definition of antisemitism. He has looked the other way as flags glorifying terror groups have been flown outside synagogues, a deliberate act meant to intimidate families walking in to pray, and as crowds gathered outside houses of worship voicing support for the same groups. At the same time, he continues prioritizing his anti-Israel agenda over the basic promises he made to Jewish New Yorkers.
Our expectations have not changed: zero tolerance for antisemitism and extremism in city government, real protection for Jewish institutions, a clear and formal definition of antisemitism that the city actually uses, and city contracts, pensions and procurement kept free of ideological boycotts. ADL will keep tracking and fighting antisemitism in New York City and across the country, whether or not this mayor is willing to do the same.
It was an honor to introduce my friend @Ostrov_A, a survivor of the Bondi attack, at last week’s Rally Against Antisemitism outside the UN. His message was one every leader needs to hear: “You cannot fight racism while tolerating antisemitism. You cannot defend human rights while denying them to Jews.”
He’s absolutely right. Enough is enough. No more excuses.

Mayor Mamdani’s “influencer army,” which includes those who have trafficked antisemitic rhetoric, now reportedly is preparing a campaign against NYC CEOs.
Its first three reported targets are Albert Bourla, Steve Fulop and Jeff Blau, all Jewish.
Is it simply a coincidence?
Just an unfortunate accident?
Or perhaps evidence of the same pattern that leads the mayor to dismiss the concerns of the vast majority of his Jewish constituents?
This is just another example of why Jewish New Yorkers don't feel protected. Leaders need to confront antisemitism, not fuel it.
NEW: Mayor Mamdani’s inner circle is plotting a string of coordinated smears on top NY CEOs, deploying the hard-left Hizzoner’s 200-strong “influencer army” to bash NYC biz leaders & drum up support for his tax-and-spend agenda

Congratulations, @ArgamaniNoa, on joining @VineVenturesLP. You survived Hamas captivity with extraordinary strength, and now you're helping build Israel's technological future, which will be the true legacy you leave. Excited to see where this new chapter takes you.
I'll start from the end: I have joined @VineVenturesLP. I'm excited, a little emotional, and mostly grateful to continue living my life.
This morning @BusinessInsider published an interview with me. Thank you to @meliarobin and @JamieHeller for listening and for telling my story with sensitivity and nuance.
For many people, I'm Noa Argamani, who was rescued by the IDF after 246 days in Hamas’ captivity. That's part of me, and it always will be. But it's not all of me, and I'd like you to get to know me in my new role too.
If you're building something, have an idea you can't stop thinking about or you’re in the Valley and looking to help the most ambitious founders in Israel succeed, I hope to be a bridge between the two ecosystems.
