A very happy Scotsman here. Corned beef with mustard and white sauce is one of my favourite meals. Growing up we didn’t have much, but we had boiled cabbage and it was a fight to see who got to drink the water it was boiled in. I still love it, it’s still a treat.

Although it’s been freezing, the days have been sunny. I guess with that comes spectacular bunches of flowers. I wonder who arranged them? Hope this brightens up someone’s day.

I was lucky enough to be at my granddaughter - Ruby Rodgers’ EP showcase tonight in Sydney. The room was packed, and she absolutely crushed it. I can’t wait for you all to hear the EP. It’s fantastic… I’m so proud.

I love seeing the mist rise over the river. It makes me think of Scotland. I’m usually still sleeping at this time of day but got up early with Dylan for France vs England soccer match. Dylan gets to dunk pastries in hot chocolate, I get a healthy Scottish bowl… is there such a thing? Jane says to tell you it’s steel cut oats with chia seed porridge, berries, bananas and Greek yoghurt, sugar free, cholesterol lowering and an energy loading start to the day. Actually tastes great.

We’ve shared ten joyful years with our little Rosie. Seems like yesterday she was a little rhinoceros. Now she’s grown up, full of love and life.

Ian Digance, or ‘Spider’ as we all knew him, started his career in the music business as a sound guy in Adelaide sometime in the early eighties. As a young man, he escaped to the big smoke in search of fame and fortune. Sydney was the place to be back then, and before long he found himself a great job. He was out on the road with one of the hardest-working, hardest-rocking bands in the land: The Angels. Spider was on his way to hitting the big time.

From there, he went on to hone his craft, working with some of the best and wildest bands in the land: Rose Tattoo, Diesel, The Hoodoo Gurus, INXS, and it was around that time we worked together.

He became a much-loved and sought-after member of an elite set of human beings. We called them our crew. Australian road crews were a band of nomads who were highly regarded and sought after because of their love of good music and their devotion to the kind of hard work that it took to set up and keep the Australian pub rock scene pumping.

Spider was right up there when it came to crew members. One of the best. He will be sadly missed by all of us who knew him, depended on him, and loved him.

His career didn’t finish in Sydney. Before too long, he was travelling the globe with some of the best rock ’n’ roll bands in the world. The cream of the crop.

I have a feeling that he is still going to be out there somewhere on the road that never ends. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled, hoping I’ll be seeing him again.

My granddaughter Ruby Rodgers has just released the title track from her upcoming EP, Sixteen, and I couldn't be prouder of her.

It's been a real joy watching her find her own voice and tell her own stories through music and activism. This new EP has been a real labour of love, and I can't wait for you all to hear it when it arrives in November.
