I want to pay tribute to my friend & colleague Gerry Kelly, as today he announces that he will not stand in next year’s Assembly election.

For decades, Gerry has been at the forefront of republican politics in Ireland & a champion of our community in north Belfast.

He has dedicated his life to an Ireland that is free & equal, & that ensures fair opportunities for everyone who calls this island home.

Sinn Féin is stronger now than at any stage since partition, & that is testament to the leadership, sacrifice & unwavering commitment of people like Gerry Kelly.

Gerry will continue to play an important role as we work to build a new & united Ireland.

I want to wish Gerry, Margaret & the entire Kelly family the very best.

The new British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, must respect the right of the people of Ireland to determine our own future.

A positive & healthy debate about a new & united Ireland is already underway in all four corners of this island.

It is only sensible & responsible that both governments work together & begin preparations in advance of a referendum.

The incoming British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, must move beyond the failures of his predecessors.

His government can, & should, fairly fund public services in the north & bring forward emergency cost of living supports for workers, families & small businesses.

Workers & families need a break.

Ultimately, it is a new & united Ireland that will unlock the hope & opportunity that every community across this island deserves.

That is the case we will be making directly to the new British Prime Minister, calling on him to respect the right of the people of Ireland to decide our own future.

There is widespread shock & devastation across north Belfast tonight after a young woman, Raven Adams, died following a crash in the York Street area.

My immediate thoughts are with her loved ones, who will be reeling with grief as they come to terms with such a profund tragedy.

I am also thinking of the other pedestrian who was struck, a young man who remains in hospital receiving treatment for serious injuries.

This tragic news will be felt deeply across north Belfast & far beyond.

Anyone with any information or dash-cam footage relating to the incident is urged to contact the police immediately & assist with their investigation.

During some of the most traumatic & difficult times a family can face, the Children’s Hospice is a beacon of hope, compassion & outstanding professionalism.

We recently visited the hospice to see first-hand the incredible care & support it provides to seriously ill children & their families.

A heartfelt thank you to every member of staff & volunteer for the difference you make to the lives of these children & their families.

It’s vital the hospice continues to be supported & properly funded, & I will keep pushing to ensure it receives the resources it needs to continue its invaluable work.

Once again, reckless actions by world leaders in the Middle East risk pushing up energy prices, with ordinary people left to pay the price.

Workers, families & small businesses cannot be left to face these rising costs alone.

The British government has the finances & power to introduce proper supports for those struggling.

Sinn Féin has & will continue to challenge the British government to bring forward a cost of living package to support households & small businesses.

We can never accept burning effigies of political representatives, flags or symbols as normal.

In any other part of the world, this would be unfathomable and unacceptable. It should be no different here.

This is hatred, rooted in ugly sectarianism and racism.

Last night, effigies of political representatives, including myself, were placed on bonfires, surrounded by flags and emblems.

Those responsible have nothing to offer except fear and division.

But they will not succeed.

I will not let hatred dictate our future.

I will continue to build a future where all our children grow up free from hate.

🏡 Progress is being made on plans to deliver modern, high-quality apartments on the former Ballygolan Primary School site on Serpentine Road.

This development will bring much-needed new homes to north Belfast.

The community came together today for the unveiling of a beautiful mural in Bawnmore, created in memory of young Caoimhin Adams on the third anniversary of his passing.

Diagnosed with the rare condition ROHHAD at just eight years old, Caoimhin was the first person on the island of Ireland to receive the diagnosis.

In the years since, his mum Catriona & the Adams family have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of ROHHAD, turning unimaginable heartbreak into a campaign that is shining a light on this little-known condition.

Caoimhin’s legacy lives on through their incredible strength, love & determination. They are an inspiration 👏

Sinn Féin Minister Liz Kimmins has announced additional late-night bus and train services during the Fleadh.

With a huge summer ahead, these services will help hundreds of thousands enjoy the celebrations and travel home safely.

Sinn Féin MPs have joined renewed calls for proper sanctions on Benjamin Netanyahu & the Israeli regime.

Palestinians face brutal conditions in Israeli prisons & are routinely subjected to severe abuse & torture.

The British government must end its complicity in Israel’s genocidal campaign & ongoing human rights violations by implementing sanctions now.

I’ve supported @gbsumudflotilla in its letter opposing torture and sexual violence.

It calls for sanctions on Benjamin Netanyahu.

Abandoned trailers in the Duncrue Estate are becoming a growing problem for local businesses.

I recently met with John J Doyle Fires & representatives from a range of public agencies to press for action.

These trailers are damaging the appearance of the area & are themselves a road safety hazard.

If we are serious about attracting investment & supporting jobs in north Belfast, then we must ensure areas like Duncrue are clean, safe & properly maintained.

Local businesses deserve better, & I will continue working to ensure progress is made.

While endless sums of money are found for weapons of mass destruction, workers & families continue to struggle.

The British government is making a callous political choice to fund war while neglecting the needs of public services & communities.

I want young people & their families to have the option of attending an Irish-medium secondary school in north Belfast.

Alongside Coláiste Feirste, we recently challenged the Department of Education on how it intends to meet the growing demand for Irish-medium education.

More & more pupils are choosing to learn through Irish every year, but that growth isn’t being matched by the investment, facilities & planning needed to support it.

The need for additional post-primary Irish-medium schools in Belfast has been recognised for years, & it’s time for the Department of Education to step up & deliver.
