Happening now at Excelsior Solar in Western New York: topsoil is being stripped and moved off properties.

The soil is moved around properties, mixed with clay and crushed rock. Some is taken offsite to a waste management facility, where it’s later brought to the dump. Other loads are taken from one property and dumped on other participating properties.

This is particularly traumatic for locals to watch because this is @USDA prime farmland and topsoil that’s been used to grow food for nearly a century.

As locals say, “they are playing the shell game of topsoil.”

When the soil is moved around multiple properties, carted off, and mixed with clay, the original value of the soil is lost. Landowners will never be able to calculate the financial loss of their resources.

To say the land will be “farmable again” is one of the most egregious foreign corporate lies ever spewed at rural New Yorkers’ doorsteps. Something must be done about this.
