Deaf community is about a shared community and language forged by common experience. CIs rightly or wrongly seen as a rejection of that.

@JeremiahDJohns @ComArbatax There’s a danger with cochlear implants that the child grows up neither fully hearing (they come no closer here close to enabling normal hearing) nor part of the deaf community as they’re encouraged to maximise exposure to hearing world to get the most out of the implants.

@GjMcGowan Energy efficient appliances usually just mean they’ve an incredibly slow, low temperature cycle as the default. Just replaced my dishwasher and washing machine and both have such “eco” cycles as the default - takes 2h30 in dishwasher. Does come out clean though.

@DanNeidle That’s the same with all welfare, though. There’s much debate about UC taper rates but few seriously argue that UC should be a lifelong entitlement. Seems iniquitous that a chosen few should be treated so differently to people in similar circumstances in PRS on housing benefit.
