🇮🇳 NEW: Nearly 100 U.S. Political Leaders Reject Hindu Nationalist Money

Nearly 100 elected officials and candidates have pledged to reject contributions tied to India’s far-right Hindu nationalist RSS, a movement with which Gandhi’s assassin was affiliated, Hindus for Human Rights Action and SACRED Acts announced.

Signatories include Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Ro Khanna and New York congressional nominee Brad Lander. Khanna said he would give away $6,600 received from a pro-MAGA billionaire with RSS ties.

The pledge coincides with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s North American visit. USCIRF, an independent bipartisan commission monitoring religious persecution abroad, opposed his visit and urged sanctions and entry bans for RSS leaders.

While I empathize with Ms. Gollapudi, this is another case of HAF "projecting" its own history of unethical tactics upon others. As one of the five victims of false accusations and a frivolous lawsuit by the HAF, and the target of a HAF mob during the caste bill debate in CA (SB 403), I can personally vouch for HAF's uneasy relationship with the truth and their "real-world consequences" for me and my family. In our case, the outpouring of support and pro-bono help, quickly led to the truth, and HAF lost.

Unfortunately, for some people in a similar situation in India, the real-world consequences of misinformation spread by HAF's ideological siblings, RSS/VHP/Bajrang Dal, have been mob lynching and often death!

e.g., Mohammad Akhlaq and his son were minding their own business inside their home when they were dragged out and attacked on a mere rumor that they had stored beef in their home.
