‘Nothing is so fatal to the progress of the human mind as to suppose our views of science are ultimate; that there are no mysteries in nature; that our triumphs are complete, and that there are no new worlds to conquer.’ Sir Humphrey Davey. 1810.

‘Overall, we will drive to be more entrepreneurial, to engage more with industry, to realize greater revenue and greater income into our program, which means there's less pressure on the public purse.’ Sir Ian Chapman. 2026.

If you want to understand why science in the UK is in such a mess ……..

@GermanAmbUK That is very encouraging. I had the pleasure to do a talk for Hassocks Twinning Association last week. The interest in all things German is very touching, and it is also keeping me connected to my roots. Happy to spread the word!

Lebkuchenherzen are a familiar sight at 🇩🇪 Xmas markets. Unlike soft lebkuchen, these are much harder - usually bought as souvenirs or gifts, not snacks. They come wrapped in film and with ribbons to hang up, with messages ranging from sweet, to more tongue-in-cheek!🤎

Today’s #EuropeanDayofLanguages reminds us that learning each other’s language brings us closer together. I'm grateful for language teachers' phenomenal work here, especially in today's challenging language learning environment. Teachers of German are key for the close 🇩🇪🇬🇧 ties!
