On appeal, the State agreed to reduce the trigger man's sentence to life without parole, however, the State inexplicably upheld Sonny’s death sentence.

Let that sink in, the man who fired the gun lived out his life in prison; Sonny is scheduled to die Thursday.

Today, we are fighting in Alabama for the life of Charles "Sonny" Burton who has spent more than 30 years on Alabama’s death row for a killing the State agrees he neither committed nor ordered. He wasn’t even in the building when the shooting occurred.

Commutation is not freedom. Julius still sits behind bars, waiting, hoping, believing.

Justice means freedom. Justice means clearing his name. Justice means reuniting Julius with his family after 25 long years.

2021 the conservative SCOTUS declined to hear Julius’ case and his request for a retrial. In 2025 with strong state republican support not only did the conservative SCOTUS overturn Richard Glossip’s death sentence for prosecutorial misconduct but ordered that he have a new trial.
