Justice is central to God's mission, not separate from it. This missional paper explores the biblical foundations of justice, calling the church to integrate gospel proclamation with compassionate action as faithful participation in the Great Commission.

The heresy of the prosperity gospel is think that “I am preeminent and so if I give to God, He owes me.”
Are your motivations for worshipping Jesus to make much of Him, or to try and get what you want from Him?
Can we be real about the prosperity gospel for a second? Because it has genuinely hurt people. The idea that faith equals financial blessing and suffering means something is spiritually wrong with you — that is not the full gospel.
Paul was shipwrecked. Beaten. Imprisoned. And he wrote some of the most joy-filled letters in scripture FROM a prison cell. Job was called blameless by God Himself before everything was taken from him.
Suffering is not evidence of weak faith. Sometimes it's evidence of a faith being refined into something unbreakable. James 1:3-4. The testing of your faith produces perseverance. That's the real wealth. 💙🔥
Dr. John Perkins was a civil rights leader, Bible teacher and one of the most influential voices for racial reconciliation in American history. In 2022, Museum of the Bible was honored to recognize him at our Blessing of the Elders celebration. His passing leaves a deep loss.
Every time I read the gospels, I’m struck by how much of Jesus’ ministry was just paying attention to people everyone else overlooked. That might still be the most radical thing a Christian can do.
Lock in on helping others yall. Night gang. Let’s grow.
“Justice work should be rooted in personal relationships, not abstract ideology. And Christians engaging justice should focus first and most on local, neighbor-level action.”
Insights on the OT and Justice:
"What is striking in the Old Testament declarations about justice is the passionate insistence that all members of the community are entitled to a full and secure place in the life of the community. Hence the clanging repetitive reference to orphans, widows, and sojourners. Over and over when justice is spoken of, that trinity is brought into view. For these were the marginal ones in ancient Israeli society. Justice arrives only when the marginal ones are no longer marginal."
~ Nicholas Wolterstorff
I have seen several posts from Christians pushing back against the need to care for the vulnerable. There is an understanding that a country's "sovereignty" should come before caring for the marginalized. If you have any doubt about God’s heart for the vulnerable, take a few minutes to read each of the following Scriptures:
Exodus 22:21
“You must not mistreat or oppress foreigners in any way. Remember, you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 22:22-23
“Do not take advantage of a widow or an orphan. If you do and they cry out to me. I will certainly hear their cry.”
Exodus 23:3
“And do not slant your testimony in favor of a person just because that person is poor.”
Exodus 23:6
“In a lawsuit, you must not deny justice to the poor.”
Exodus 23:11
“. . . but let the land be renewed and lie uncultivated during the seventh year. Then let the poor among you harvest whatever grows on its own. Leave the rest for wild animals to eat. The same applies to your vineyards and olive groves.”
Exodus 30:15
“When this offering is given to the Lord to purify your lives, making you right with him, the rich must not give more than the specified amount, and the poor must not give less.”
Leviticus 19:10
“It is the same with your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 23:22
“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. Leave it for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 25:35
“If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and cannot support himself, support him as you would a foreigner or a temporary resident and allow him to live with you.”
Deuteronomy 15:7
“But if there are any poor Israelites in your towns when you arrive in the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tightfisted toward them.”

Job 20:10
“His children must make amends to the poor; his own hands must give back his wealth.”
Job 22:8-10
“You probably think the land belongs to the powerful and only the privileged have a right to it! You must have sent widows away empty-handed and crushed the hopes of orphans. That is why you are surrounded by traps and tremble from sudden fears.”
Job 29:11-13
“All who heard me praised me. All who saw me spoke well of me. For I assisted the poor in their need and the orphans who required help. I helped those without hope, and they blessed me. And I caused the widows’ hearts to sing for joy.”
Job 30:25
“Have I not wept for those in trouble? has not my soul grieved for the poor?”
Job 31:16-23
“Have I refused to help the poor, or crushed the hopes of widows? Have I been stingy with my food and refused to share it with orphans? No, from childhood I have cared for orphans like a father, and all my life I have cared for widows. Whenever I saw the homeless without clothes and the needy with nothing to wear, did they not praise me for providing wool clothing to keep them warm? If I raised my hand against an orphan, knowing the judges would take my side, then let my shoulder be wrenched out of place! Let my arm be torn from its socket! That would be better than facing God’s judgment. For if the majesty of God opposes me, what hope is there?”
Psalm 12:5
“I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.”

“It is a disastrous misunderstanding to think that we can enjoy salvation through Jesus and at the same time regard action for justice in the world as a sort of optional extra—or even an inferior substitute for the work of passing on the good news of salvation. Action for social justice is salvation in action.... Anyone who thinks of salvation apart from seeking deliverance from sickness or hunger or oppression or alienation is very remote from the biblical use of the word.” ~ Lesslie Newbigin
A video of a young boy telling his mom about anti-immigrant harassment he faced while playing soccer has gone viral. CBS News spoke with the mother who filmed her son, Max, as he cried about the bullying he faced. She said she did not post the video to create controversy, but instead to remind people "how deeply our words and actions can effect one another, especially our children."
In the video, the boy says another child told he was an illegal immigrant and that he should go back to his country, despite the fact he was born in America.
Tomorrow is MLK Day.
So today, we pause—on purpose.
The dream isn’t just something we remember.
It’s something we practice.
In a loud world—listen deeply.
In a broken world—act justly.
In a tired world—love boldly.

Christmas became the great celebratory feast of Christians because it basically says that it’s good to be human, it’s good to be on this Earth, it’s good to have a body, it’s good to have emotions. We don’t need to be ashamed of any of it! ~ Richard Rohr

The world takes care of its own. We are called to care for those whom the world forgets, marginalizes and excludes. We are called to see those whom the world fails to see and to hear those whom the world no longer listens to.
One of the central passages he addressed was Micah 6:8, a verse many people view as inspirational—yet in its original context, it is actually a rebuke.
Micah 6:8 reveals God’s standard:
Act Justly — live with integrity, righteousness, and fairness toward others.
Love Mercy — show compassion and steadfast love, especially toward the vulnerable.
Walk Humbly with God — reject pride, and live in dependence on God rather than self.
"When the church allows political ideology—whether right or left—to define the contours of discipleship, it participates in the same substitution. Jesus is no longer Lord; ideology is.”
Alan Hirsch
When Amos cried out, “let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” (Amos 5:24), he knew full well that justice is God’s own action. The river belongs to God. Amos does not command Israel to generate justice by sheer effort; he declares what God wills to unleash. This keeps us from despair when human efforts falter, and it guards us from pride when progress is made. Justice is a stream sourced in the covenant-keeping God, and we are invited to step into its current.
