Forget the few bad ones. We are a great and prosperous people. We are blessed with the ability to draw wealth from almost anything because we are resilient. That is enough to attract envy.

A people who lack the ability to think outside the box, instead of looking inwards, unlearn, learn, and relearn, choose envy over introspection. "That job should have been ours," they believe as they wallow in their folly. So they come up with all types of accusations to demonised us.

They forget that this thing called grace—if you have it, you have it. Forget whatever negativity they say about Nigeria. Nigerians have grace. Where we are not wanted, our grace leaves with us.

Yet, for years, xenophobic activists have pushed the lie that Nigerian nationals are overrunning South African prisons a deliberate attempt to fuel anti‑Nigerian sentiment and justify violence against innocent citizens.

WHY THIS MATTERS:

This is not just about numbers. It is about a pattern of demonisation. Nigerians in South Africa have been subjected to xenophobic attacks, looting of businesses, and even murder all fuelled by false narratives.

The South African government has been silent.

Instead of correcting the narrative, the government has allowed anti‑migrant sentiment to fester, often using the same language of "criminality" to justify inaction. When Nigerians are attacked, the response is tepid. When Nigerians are killed, the response is silence.

Now, South Africa is running helter‑skelter for alignment.

The same country that has been pushing a wrong narrative against Nigeria is now scrambling to present itself as a partner of the continent. But you cannot demonise a people and then expect cooperation.

Nigeria must respond decisively. Not with anger but with facts. Not with threats but with diplomatic engagement.

But the message must be clear: WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THE DEMONISATION OF NIGERIA CITIZENS.
