This study investigated how the risk for type 2 diabetes influences Achilles tendon health in individuals with and without Achilles tendinopathy (AT). Those at risk for type 2 diabetes and with an AT diagnosis had the most severe tendon pathology and worst function.
Individuals with Achilles tendinopathy with 2+ metabolic risk factors maintained lower physical activity than those with 1 or 0 risk factors. Education of low tendon load activities may be necessary to address modifiable metabolic risk factors while managing tendinopathy recovery
1 month after ACLR using bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft, graft site gap width and proportion of healthy tendon cannot be inferred from clinical presentation. Comprehensive rehab should include measures of tendon structural healing as well as clinical outcomes

Females with Achilles tendinopathy present with worse symptoms & deficits in heel rise work compared to males. However, both have similar improvements with rehab & reach similar outcomes in function, structure & function by 6 months.

Higher Achilles tendon loads during running relate to greater plantarflexor strength, but not heel-rise endurance in adolescents. Monitoring calf strength gains in early adolescence may aid in reducing Achilles tendon loading and avoiding overuse injury in youth.
