Small beet, big power. 🌱
Thanks to innovations in breeding and technology, sugarbeet cultivation has become more and more efficient: A hundred years ago, the sugar content of beets was only around 4%. Today, it’s more than four times higher, with ranges between 17–20%, making it the highest sugar-content crop in Europe.
A powerful example of how innovation continues to drive progress — 170 years and growing.

KWS Hybrid Rye forage offers flexible harvest timing to match your operation’s needs.
An early cut delivers high energy forage with 18–20% crude protein and 66% TDN, while a later cut provides a more fibrous feed with 10–11% crude protein and 63% TDN.
This flexibility lets you plan harvest timing around workload management, feed inventory, or nutritional goals — without compromising performance.

Strong growth needs strong roots — and genuine partnership. At KWS, our roots reach back to the early days of sugarbeet breeding at our founding site in Klein Wanzleben, eastern Germany.
Those beginnings shaped who we are today: a global seed company offering a diverse range of high‑performing crop varieties, and a trusted partner supporting farmers across the agricultural sector.
No matter how far we’ve come, it’s those deep roots — in innovation, in breeding excellence, and in supporting growers — that continue to guide us forward.
Where are your roots? And what are you building on today?

It's a good idea to conduct a plant count this spring! 🌱
A proper plant count helps evaluate the strength of your rye stand as it comes out of winter. Choose a well‑represented area in the field, count plants based on your row spacing, and flag the spot so you can check back later.
Target plant counts:
• 7.5-inch rows: 17 plants within 19 inches of row
• 10-inch rows: 17 plants within 14.5 inches of row
• 12-inch rows: 17 plants within 12 inches of row
Rye grows earlier and faster than other fall‑seeded crops, so if your fertility wasn’t applied last fall, be ready to get it on as soon as fields thaw and dry.

Fall rye is the most winter‑hardy of the fall‑seeded cereals and breaks dormancy early. Once spring green‑up begins, it’s the ideal time to walk fields, and evaluate overall winter survival to help guide your early‑season decisions.
