West Bengal ACB Traps Revenue Official in North 24 Parganas Over ₹25,000 Bribe

A Revenue Inspector stationed at the Bagdah Block Land and Land Reforms Office (B.L. & L.R.O.) in North 24 Parganas was taken into custody on Wednesday following a targeted sting operation by the West Bengal Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).
The operation was initiated after a local resident lodged a formal complaint alleging that the official had demanded illegal gratification to clear a pending land conversion request.
Acting on the tip-off, ACB officers set a trap at the Bagdah office, catching the bureaucrat red-handed as he accepted ₹25,000 in cash from the applicant.

ACB Trap Operation at Haringhata DIB Office, Ranaghat Police District

On 21.09.2026, on the basis of a complaint received from a resident of Nimtala Bazar, PS Haringhata, Nadia, alleging demand of ₹10,000/- as illegal gratification in connection with passport verification, the Anti-Corruption Branch conducted a trap operation at the DIB Office, Haringhata, under Ranaghat Police District.

During the trap operation, two Civic Volunteers attached to the Haringhata DIB Office were caught red-handed while accepting the demanded bribe amount.

Severe floods continue to ravage Malda, with Ratua, Manikchak and Ratanpur worst hit. The Ganga is flowing at 26.5 metres, well above the danger mark, causing severe erosion.

The NDRF has evacuated around 700 people, including pregnant women and the elderly. Displaced families have been moved to Sujapur, where tarpaulin tents have been set up.

Dear Yatri Sathi, A cab of your was booked to travel from Hwh to Madhyamgram. A senior Citizen lady was travelling all alone. The driver concluded the trip in the midway near Chingrighata. He agreed to drop the passenger to the destination. After that he started screaming and threatening the female passenger all through the journey. When my spouse spoke to him, he was not only rude but also abusive. The drivers like them pose serious threat to women safety

Four dedicated toll-free helpline numbers have been launched to allow citizens to report grievances directly, operating out of a control room set up physically at Nabanna.

Syndicate-related complaints: 155335

Illegal Road Tax/Toll-related complaints: 155337

Illegal Distilleries-related complaints: 155339

All four numbers are completely toll-free with no cost to the caller. The control room to operate daily from 08:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs, including Saturdays, Sundays, and government holidays.

It supports 20 simultaneous calls (5 per number) across the four lines and is manned by trained staff. All calls are automatically recorded and processed, an online record is maintained for follow-up and monitoring, and every complaint is kept confidential. @SuvenduWB #WestBengalPolitics #helpline
