The Brother Brothers Garage and Store is located in Allen County and is being nominated under Criteria A for Commerce to the State Register of Historic Kansas Places only. #kansashistory #commerse #allencounty

The brown brothers operated the garage and hardware store until 1941,but one of the sons,Charles Brown took over the store after the war.The building was owned by descendance of the brown family until 2014, and is still being used as a goods store and as a community meeting place

The Edwards building, located in Pawnee County and is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places only under Criteria A and C for Commerce and Architecture. The Edwards Building was nominated to the State register 10/02/2024. #kansashistory #Architecture #commerce

Built in 1910 in a commercial style building with classical detailing. It was designed for 2 commercial businesses. The upper floor later converted to apartments.The Edwards building enhanced the skyline for more than 100 years due to being the only 2 story building on the block.

Was built by F.L Swanson who was born in Sweden. The house was later sold to Dr Riley and Ruth Gardner in 1951. Dr Gardner was a research psychologist at the Menninger Foundation from 1951-1971 as the director of the research ground engaged in studying cognitive control principle

The Todd, Lucinda and Alvin House located in Shawnee County is being nominated under Criteria A, B and C for Social History, association of Lucinda Todd, and Architecture. It is being nominated under the African American Resources of Topeka MPDF #kansashistory #africanamerican

Lucinda Todd taught at Bucanan Elementary, and due to laws, couldn't teach when she married Alvin Todd. In 1951 she was one of 10 Black parents who enrolled kids in White schools, which led to a lawsuit that determined “separate by equal”, later became Brown v Board of education.
