Here’s my take- Walt Whitman HS has a 2026 graduation class size of 538.
The incoming freshman class size for fall 2026 is, according to the principal last as of last week, 404.
That’s a 25% enrollment decline in four years to what is consistently ranked the #1 high school in the state of Maryland. It’s also one of the wealthiest areas of the state as a suburb of Washington, DC.
Translation: people who can leave public school do.
