These are my teammates. We are Olympic champions. Three of us tried to give birth. Two of us experienced near-death complications. One of us died. We have to, and we will do more. Tori’s death cannot and will not be in vain.

Dear Governor @GavinNewsom
It’s been over a month since I met with CalOES & @CaliforniaDSS staff on the Rapid Response Program to provide assistance to undocumented #Pajaro flood victims who don’t qualify for #FEMA and it’s been almost 2 months since it was originally requested when the levee broke! But still no such assistance on the ground!
California must do better for its flood victims, especially in disadvantaged communities! We must deploy disaster assistance more expeditiously than this!
🙏🏽THANK YOU TO SUPERVISOR #FelipeHernandez for organizing this SHOP PAJARO to support small businesses in this community, STARTING TOMORROW April 28-30! #SupportSmallBusinesses👏🏽 #SupportPajaro✊🏽

Join us beginning on Friday at 2:00pm and help Pajaro businesses get back
on their feet and help create a sense of normalcy in the community. The Pajaro Valley community is a tight knit community that always comes together whenever a neighbor is in need.
Pajaro, although Monterey County, is Watsonville’s neighbor and very much part of our community. We’ve seen this collective mutual support in the past floods and earthquakes. Let’s continue the mutual support to our neighbors and support the struggling businesses in the aftermath of the floods.
Governor @GavinNewsom just let me that the Major Disaster Declaration was just signed!✍🏽👏🏽
As the Chair of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors, I thank President @JoeBiden for finally signing the Major Disaster Declaration that will now deploy FEMA workers and assistance for #Pajaro families and small businesses, and other flood-impacted communities throughout the state!
The people of Pajaro do so much to put food on the tables of millions of Americans, and they are now needing the support and assistance of our federal and state agencies to recover from these devastating floods. Many have lost so much, and must be supported to recover from this extreme hardship. We are relieved that help is on its way!🙏🏽
I especially thank Governor Newsom & his staff, @JulieCR46, U.S. Senators @AlexPadilla4CA & @SenFeinstein, Congressmembers @ZoeLofgren and @RepJimmyPanetta and our State Legislators @SenJohnLaird, @anna4thevalley, @AsmRobertRivas and @AsmDawnAddis and @Cal_OES for helping us all the way with this critical request to help uplift PAJARO! #PajaroWillRise💪🏽🕊️
Tonight marks 3 weeks since the levee broke that flooded the disadvantaged Latino community of #Pajaro! I urge President #JoeBiden@POTUS to immediately sign the Major Disaster Declaration to get @FEMA assistance here soon!
As Chair of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors, I again invite the President to come visit #Pajaro and meet with our flood-impacted residents & small businesses!🙏🏽🇺🇸
Moments ago, the governor officially requested President Joe Biden make FEMA individual assistance available for various California counties impacted by the recent spring storms, including Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. This is excellent news, but more needs to be done.
A community united can never be divided.
We want to acknowledge the dozens of nonprofit and community leaders who signed a letter asking that Gov. Gavin Newsom provide emergency aid to Pajaro Valley residents who have lost so much.
We urge you to contact your elected officials to ask Gov. Newsom to work with local lawmakers and bring FEMA aid to the Pajaro Valley: https://t.co/xJDXUB9kIr

POWERFUL LETTER from small business owners in #Pajaro to Governor @GavinNewsom and @Cal_OES urging the immediate request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration that would deploy FEMA workers and assistance to the ground here in Pajaro to assist residents & small businesses in our community. Also direct financial assistance to small businesses beyond just loans & assistance for undocumented flood victims who will not qualify for FEMA assistance or unemployment insurance!⚠️✍🏽
“We are a coalition of small businesses in the community of Pajaro that was recently devastated by the massive floods that started on March 11, 2023. Pajaro is a small, disadvantaged Latino community of nearly 3,000 residents and dozens of small businesses, and our community is suffering from direct impacts to our homes, vehicles and businesses. We are writing to urge your office and the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to immediately request a Presidential Disaster Declaration that would deploy FEMA workers and assistance to the ground here in Pajaro to assist residents and small businesses in our community.
Additionally, we want to implore you and FEMA to provide direct financial assistance to our businesses beyond just loans. Our businesses have suffered tremendous financial losses during the last evacuation in January and the one this month, and there are significant physical damages to our businesses. These are losses that we cannot recoup through any other means.
Lastly, we are respectfully requesting state emergency resources for the undocumented community members in Pajaro who have been severely impacted and displaced due to flooding, but who will not qualify for the most needed assistance once FEMA services arrive. Also, many of our undocumented community members will be out of work for a significant period, as the flooding has damaged over 20,000 acres of local agricultural farmlands, and many do not qualify for unemployment insurance due to their immigration status.” @ZoeLofgren
Santa Cruz County Supervisor #FelipeHernandez joins in calling for State assistance for undocumented storm and flood victims who will not qualify for FEMA aid in both Santa Cruz & Monterey Counties, including those out of work due to flooded farmlands!
⚠️TREMENDOUS LOSS seen up close today in #Pajaro! Every family & small business was inviting me into their homes/business to witness their severe losses & damage. Mud is everywhere and you can smell the fowl odor of the water and mud in each home. Cars left behind are total losses. Most have lost everything. Residents with red tags on their homes are left with more uncertainty!
It is very difficult to remove the think, slippery vast amounts of mud without more heavy duty equipment and there’s no running water yet to help with the clean up!
🚨These families and small business need help from FEMA and the State of California immediately! I urge for FEMA to be deployed to the ground now and the State of California to send additional state resources to help our neighbors in Pajaro!
Thousands of people are currently displaced from their homes in the Pajaro Valley, one of the most important agricultural centers in the nation. Here are some ways to help.
