I, uh, haven’t been here for a while — but I need your help. I’m lucky to be in a place where I am passing along projects to emerging photographers and I’m looking to build my Rolodex in Toronto.
So, when I was invited on set as a photographer, I was already so connected to the story. I fluttered quietly around @ChristianBielz while he worked his magic, marveling and how accurately production designer @Nicole_Simmons_ recreated everything.
As legal researcher, I pored over legal transcripts, pulling from foundational learnings in Sheehy’s crim classes at @uocommonlaw, (🙏🏽) and was so grateful to @wilhelminastef (formerly of @InnocenceCanada) for the resources she shared. Then @sherien and I assembled the issues.
What generous news to start the day with. Congratulations to our amazing team + to all others nominated. Thank you for trusting and sharing your story with us, Tamara. 🙏🏽

I'm energized + grateful as ever to have the support of @HotDocs and their belief in the power of our film and our team. Looking forward to collaborating with a stellar group of folks in this incubator! 💫
📣 We're please to announce the 5 Canadian #doc projects that will receive a total of $175,000 as part of the Hot Docs Incubator program—the newest pillar of our award-winning Canadian Storytellers Project!

Our doc crew was small but mighty! Meet 3 of our key team behind the scenes of #Cynara: @ChristianBielz - our cinematographer, Dave Draper - our sound operator; and Dina Attalla - our first assistant camera. Photo Credit (Christian and Dina): @kenyajade.
On today's episode of Off the Tracks, we are joined by @kenyajade. Kenya-Jade is an Indo-Kenyan-Canadian documentary photographer, filmmaker, & lawyer. Her work focuses on non-fiction & narrative projects that navigate themes of displacement, belonging, & access to justice.
@kenyajade also gives us an exclusive behind the scenes look at her new photo exhibit, “Storytelling, Migration Journeys, and Technology,” which premiers today(!) at the @BKCHarvard. Find the episode here: https://t.co/cCaqXvEOTQ
In 2023, I'm excited to share more work on set that's finally making its way out from under embargo, and find my way onto more sets too ⚡

I’m a documentarian through and through, so whether fiction or documentary, I find and frame the little moments which make up the arc of a minute, a day, a shooting block, or a production.
Every day since 2017, the Women Photograph data team has recorded the byline of the lead photos on the front pages of 8 international newspapers. For the first time, fewer women + nonbinary photogs appeared on the front pages in 2022 than the year before.
