Gave credit where credit was due for the initial balance of this set in the first patch, but then it immediately took a dip and flatlined for the remainder. Still not the worst set I’ve played, but I’m not gonna write home about it.
Not going to give my opinion about the current drama because it doesn't fucking matter. I do, however, hate misinformed debates. Once you start blatantly lying (there was a punishment for Shituoren), that's not a good faith argument, you're just angry for the sake of being angry
Build expectations on TFT sets relative to this cycle: Good - Bad - Bad. As much as I’d love for the game to improve set to set, this has been the writing on the wall for years once opens began. You’re less likely to be disappointed when you use this relative scale.
There can't actually be this many people out here acting like Set 17 is somehow worse than other sets because there are "too many 3 star 4 costs" when the same exact shit literally happened last set.
Genuinely excited for the upcoming patch for the first time in a while. With this many changes, there will almost certainly be issues, but solid attempts have been made to address my biggest pain points of the set at the moment: econ augments, reroll, and rigid comp conditions
@Dishsoaptft Sure, I agree that the surrounding board is trash, and I probably could have taken a better screenshot example later in the game once I put together a better board, but it’s also far harder to put together a decent board on 7 when 4-5 total odds are at 11%.
Case in point for my last post: If a fully itemized 3 star 3 cost is only doing 2k more damage than an un-upgraded 4 cost, there is something critically wrong with how 3 costs are balanced/designed relative to higher cost units. I lost this fight btw
@LastKardax Board is questionable, but if you don’t have access to Swain/5 costs, how would you significantly improve this board in this state. Liss only showed up by the time I already lost to Lux 1 and you can’t just “toss in” a legendary if you never see one on 7
@RyKoTFT Of those traits, they have +1 damage trait on me. Moreover if you’re on 7, you’re essentially locked out of the high cost unit that are pre-requisites for decent boards this set. I don’t think an arcanist difference somehow trumps a 27 to 4 gold difference
This is more so the case with carries, and less so with tanks. It is something that you especially start to notice when trying to play for a 3* 3 cost carry though
Not sure these 3 cost odds address what I think is the bigger issue with 3 cost reroll currently: 3 costs are just weak. There has never been a point this set where I would prefer a 3* 3 cost over a 2* 5 cost, and barely over a 2* 4 cost. Just not worth the investment.
Broken record here, but this 3* 4 cost issue would be a lot less prevalent if there wasn't a single click button that gave you 12 gold+a 2 star 4 cost, or 10 rolls and 2 dupes, etc etc. If I see a single 3* 4 cost get nerfed before an econ augment change, I'm gonna lose it
@JukeYouTFT I'll take someone being an item up/closer to BIS than someone being level 10 on 5-1 any day. If augments are gonna stay as central as they are, I prefer the option that requires some knowledge of unit interaction over "here's more money"
My dislike of econ augs comes down to this: How econ is managed (especially early/mid) SHOULD be a key decision making avenue. When it’s dumbed down to “Did you get an econ augment”, it doesn’t sit right to me, and it de-emphasizes things like streaking/shop management.
@Triplemoonnstre In an ideal world, I agree. Don't think the current state of the game adheres to that. No econ augment = stuck being unable to push levels. If you roll, you're so behind on econ/tempo compared to the rest of the lobby mid to late game, so you have to pray you natural something.
This reflects a major gripe that I have. One question that I’ve been extremely curious about for a while is this: What is the AVP for games where a player doesn’t have any econ augments? For me. this feels like a more interesting Q than looking at individual augment placements
I think it's massively tragic that my "It clicked" moment of this set was me telling myself to just click econ augments. Overall fun set, but I pray every day that something is done about these things
