A strong democracy is not built by government alone; it is built by citizens who engage in public participation, budgeting processes, and local governance. This Katiba Day, we celebrate every Kenyan doing the quiet work of holding the Constitution's promise together.
#KatibaDay.
The training closed by examining Kajiado's WASH commitments, spotting gaps in implementation, data & reporting, and turning learning into action. Top priority: a complaint-redress mechanism that gives communities a clear path to raise water service concerns.
#WaterGovernance
The @kyp034 spent 3 days strengthening their capacity in water governance, public accountability & leadership, reflecting on their journey and what it takes to build a stronger, more cohesive youth-led institution.
#WASHForAll
From the constitutional right to water to CIDP participation, budgeting & Project Management Committees, young people explored real entry points into water decision-making. Peer exchange with @037WaterBunge added hard-won lessons on building effective youth parliaments.
Women are often at the centre of household water needs, yet rarely at the centre of decisions on it. These forums helped shift that, strengthening women's voice in local water governance. Protecting water is a shared responsibility.
#MovementBuilding@wateraidnl
Maendeleo Ya Wanawake women joined public participation forums in Kithuke & Kitise (Aug 10–11) and led a sensitisation forum in Kikome on protecting water resources. Their message: women must have a seat at the table in water decision-making.

The Multi-Sectoral Nexus value channel is where I4WASH defines integrated projects across those four lines. It is also where CSOs either claim a permanent seat in cross-sector green infrastructure planning or get briefed on decisions made without it.

Climate-resilient engineering, Circular resource recovery and Data mapping for infrastructure planning. These are not skills most CSO field personnel are trained in, but they are increasingly the baseline for being taken seriously in this sector.🧵
I4WASH's capacity-building value channel puts CSO field staff directly into technical training loops alongside engineers and water utility teams.
Sitting out doesn't keep your team focused on the community work that matters; it keeps you locked out of designing and auditing
This year at I4WASH, there will be an opportunity where CSOs will pitch community-owned, sustainable models directly to impact investors, microfinance institutions, and green facilities, not as recipients, but as execution partners who can manage capital and hold community trust.
Traditional donor grants are short-term, restrictive, and often end just before a project becomes self-sustaining. This is not new information to CSOs right now.

The ultimate goal is for CSOs to be positioned as long-term implementation partners.
We are holding a webinar next week on Wednesday to understand more about this value channel.

Most CSO-utility relationships end when the project ends.
I4WASH's networking value channel is built to change that, connecting CSOs with county governments, public utilities, and cleantech providers to build sustainable alliances, not one-off collaborations.

Through the Policy Dialogue & Advocacy channel, civil society doesn't sit in the audience; it sits on the panel, applying a rights-based lens: affordability, accessibility, non-discrimination, & structural gender equity. Not superficial metrics. Structural power 🧵
@QuercusGroup
Before the forum, we will be having a preparatory webinar to help CSOs walk in ready to hold that ground: how to position your organization, what to bring to the table, and how national resource allocation gets legally bound to reach the people it's supposed to.

Young people everywhere face different realities. But their aspirations remain the same. That is dignity, decent opportunities, and meaningful participation. Today we celebrate the young people who are turning their shared opportunities into action. Happy #InternationalYouthDay.
