Participants worked towards identifying priority legislative reforms to advance women's political representation, strategic investments that strengthen women's leadership and institutions, and champions who will drive implementation and accountability.
The shared vision is clear. Democracies are stronger when women participate equally, compete safely and lead without structural barriers. Advancing gender responsive governance requires political will, sustained investment and collective action across Parliament, civil society, development partners and the private sector.

KEWOPA and Nalafem convened women parliamentarians, political leaders, activists, development partners, funders and business leaders for a high level roundtable focused on one objective. Identify practical legislative and financing priorities that will accelerate gender equity in elected positions across Africa.
The discussion recognised that expanding women's representation requires more than increasing numbers. It requires laws, institutions and political systems that protect, support and sustain women in leadership.
#Nalafem2026 #WomeninPoliticske
Participants examined the structural barriers limiting women's political participation, including the delayed implementation of the Two Thirds Gender Principle, unequal access to campaign financing, weak institutional support and the growing impact of technology facilitated and sexual gender based violence.
The roundtable explored legislative reforms to strengthen protection for women in politics, improve accountability within political parties and electoral institutions, enhance digital safety and create stronger pathways for women to seek, win and thrive in elected office.
The conversation also drew lessons from successful reforms and advocacy efforts across Africa, reinforcing the value of scaling solutions that already work.

Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) is increasingly undermining women's participation in leadership, governance, and democratic processes. As digital platforms shape political engagement, stronger legal and policy frameworks are needed to protect women from online harassment, misinformation, digital impersonation, and other forms of technology-enabled abuse.
#EndTFGBV #DigitalRights
In partnership with @UNFPAKen and @covaw , @KEWOPA brought together government policymakers and key stakeholders to co-design an operational roadmap that will strengthen Kenya's response to TFGBV.
The discussions explored legislative and policy reform opportunities, human rights-based approaches, and practical mechanisms for prevention, protection, accountability, and survivor-centred responses.
Participants developed priority recommendations to strengthen electoral accountability, expand representation, and promote safer, fairer political spaces for all.
Together, we are advancing a more inclusive and participatory democracy.
