Nous représentons près de 18 % de la population mondiale, mais seulement 2 à 3 % du trafic aérien mondial. En 2025, le marché africain devait atteindre environ 175 millions de passagers ; il pourrait monter à 345 millions d’ici 2043. Pourtant, nos compagnies ne captent qu’environ 49 % du trafic international africain et à peine 35 % du trafic intercontinental. Autrement dit, près de 65 % du long-courrier africain reste contrôlé par des transporteurs non africains.

Le paradoxe est là : nous avons le marché, la démographie, la demande, les villes, le tourisme, la ZLECAf, les corridors économiques. Mais nous payons encore trop cher notre fragmentation : routes protégées mais peu rentables, taxes multiples, redevances élevées, carburant coûteux, escales inutiles, détours absurdes, faibles économies d’échelle, réglementation dispersée. Résultat : voyager entre deux capitales africaines coûte souvent plus cher que sortir du continent.

C’est dans ce contexte qu’en marge du 5e Comité technique ministériel spécialisé des ministres africains des Transports et de l’Énergie, à Johannesburg, j’ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer, avec Éric Ntagengerwa, Chef de Division Transports de la Commission de l’Union africaine, l’équipe de l’AFCAC.

Nous avons échangé sur la préparation du prochain forum continental de l’aviation civile, prévu à Lomé, du 15 au 19 juin 2026, co-organisé par l’AFCAC, la CUA, le Secrétariat de la ZLECAf, l’AUDA-NEPAD et d’autres partenaires.

Le message est simple : notre industrialisation passera par la liberté de circuler, de commercer, de transporter les compétences, les biens et les services. Et cette liberté passera aussi par le ciel unique africain.

Ouvrir notre ciel ne veut pas dire déréguler. Cela veut dire mieux réguler ensemble : harmoniser les règles, libérer les routes, moderniser les aéroports, structurer le fret et donner à nos compagnies une vraie profondeur de marché.

Nous ne produirons pas ensemble si nous ne pouvons pas voler ensemble.
