For anyone still out there, my first piece in The Irish Times about the joy of the New York Times obituary, 175 years in. It’s a field that’s growing quieter and quieter still

Honoured that my first story in my hometown paper @irishexaminer is about my best friend, Cian, his late Dad, the cardiothoracic surgeon Aonghus O’Donnell, and how Aonghus’ passing is shaping Cian’s life and career every day

Who decided to give Joseph O'Connor, a writer with no knowledge of football an expense account, flights and tickets to the 1994 World Cup?
This guy, of course.

It’s All-Ireland hurling final week. I’ve loved hurling my whole life. But I’d never played it. Until last year, when...
I moved to Waterford. I joined my dad’s club, Old Parish. I tried to understand by doing. And I wrote a book. Pre-order it from today https://t.co/Ysrw8ne6LR
I absolutely loved this podcast, possibly one of my favourite-ever @SecondCaptains. Full of joy, laughs, emotion and the perfect intro from @saveciaranmurph. Available to all below
Shouting into the void here but reffing of the high tackle feels increasingly arbitrary, to the point of feeling like a crap shoot. Player running full pelt met by a tackler standing upright who, if anything, rises into contact. Yellow. Why?
Thanks to @KillianDown for asking me & Chantal to come on & speak about our son, Dylan, & the experiences we've had navigating the system since his autism diaganosis.
The @SecondCaptains lads have kindly put the episode on their free-to-all streams.

Today's show is a little different
We're joined by @DavidSneyd and his wife Chantal to speak about their 6-year-old son Dylan who was diagnosed with autism a couple of years ago, and their long and ongoing struggle to navigate the Irish healthcare system

Having turned 101 earlier this month we jumped on the DART and made the pilgrimage to Charlie O’Leary’s memories laden Northside abode.

Didn't want to post about this till I got permission. That young couple who were cruelly killed by a hit and run driver were my nextdoor neighbours for over a decade. I still can't get my head around those beautiful and caring people and their 2 great kids now orphaned. I spoke to their inconsolable family at the vigil. Their hearts and minds are destroyed. Their friends and our neighbours devastated.
We will miss you both, thanks for being so kind to my Mam and me. Yous were 1 in a million. We can't do anything to help poor Georgina or Anto now, but we can try and raise a few bob for their children. Please donate if you can.

Our final Second Captains Saturday of the year featured a gorgeous conversation with Sebastian Barry about family, which was fitting given the time of year 💛
Listen back below or via your podcast app and we’ll chat to you all again next summer 📻
