Did anyone else see Gerry and Sewell at the @TheatreRoyalNew ?
It was a proper North East story. I loved it.
That North East story was brought to life by the brilliant @jamieeastlake who told me it all started in a the upstairs room of a social club in Whitley Bay. From there it went to @LiveTheatre , then to the Theatre Royal and then all the way to the West End.
In Jamie’s words- those small venues are the life blood of our culture. Without them, our North East story just wouldn’t be told.
More about what we’re doing to support small venues coming very soon!
🐟From smoked fish to live music. Nothing screams North East culture more than the Three on the North Shields fish quay. Once part of the fishing industry, it’s transformed into an incredible music hub at the heart of the community. We need to protect our small venues, and I’m doing something about it.
We’ll be revealing more this week 👀
Every young person in the North East deserves the best start in life and we will make that a reality.
It was a really inspiring day at our second North East Child Poverty Summit last week.
We reflected on an incredible year of taking action. We've delivered cheaper public transport, support with the cost of living, millions of pounds put back into pockets of hard working families, thousands supported with skills training and qualifications to help people take the leap to better career opportunities, but we are ready to do even more over the next 12 months.
I will accept Nigel Farage’s request to be appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead.
It is a farce and a desperate distraction, and the people of Clacton deserve better.
But if he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won't stop him.
Proof of one thing only, Farage only cares about Farage.
This is a stupid stunt to distract from his dodgy donations. It won’t work.
He has Zero respect for the people of Clacton. Zero.
Never fall for his “man of the people” bullshit. It’s all about him, never about you.
🚨 BREAKING: Nigel Farage has resigned as an MP to trigger a by-election in Clacton
"This will be a people vs the establishment by-election. A chance to stick two fingers up to the entire establishment"
I promised to improve bus services for the people who rely on them every day.
Now it's time for you to have your say.

Solar panels = more glue sticks 😂
I loved visiting @HudsonRoad to see how our Solar for Schools programme is making a real difference.
By cutting energy bills, schools can spend more on what really matters – books, trips and giving children the best start in life. Don’t take it from me, hear it from Mrs Westgate. 🌞
@CharlotteCGill I did Charlotte. Yes. While I was at Harvard with mayors from all over the world, working through local and global issues together, cross party and across a broad spectrum of views. All in the name of better delivery for our residents. Thanks.
£2m put back into the pockets of North East families, and now we are doubling the amount of support we can offer. Because we know the cost of living is the single biggest thing affecting you.
Thanks to £2.6m from @TNLUK , we’re expanding our advice in schools and communities programme – we’ll now support over 4,000 families, almost double before.
This is about getting help to people where and when they need it most.
The people of the North East know what’s best for the North East. So why are so many of decisions about our future made in London?
That’s why more devolution is so good for us. It’s time to take back control.
We need to take back control of our own future and decisions in the North East.
For too long Whitehall has dominated but @andyburnhamhq’s speech this week shows there’s a different way of doing things.
One that takes power from Westminster and puts it in the hands of local people. Here’s me talking to @Channel4News about why this matters!
It’s been a bit of a week this week and it’s only Tuesday. I expect you might have some questions about politics on tomorrow’s phone in so let’s hear them!
Catch me on the BBC Newcastle phone in tomorrow morning!
Or even better - ask a question or share an idea. Call 0800 234 6565 or text 81333 (start message with BBC)
On Saturday I told @andyburnham we need more powers taken out of Whitehall and given to the region to help young people get good jobs.
On Monday the next PM said that’s exactly what we’ll get.
We’re going to show you what ‘take back control’ really looks like and what it can do for the people of the North East.
