As long as education is based on the colonial blueprint of Coercion (which is the case in all “modern” schooling systems), rather than Consent, it will always be violent.
It’s an honor to have something you do at one conference (IDEC 2023) be recognized to inspire the theme of another (EUDEC 2024)… this is an idea whose time has come. For too long we’ve accepted education practices that violate the Rights of the Child, and This. Must. Stop.
Everybody claims they want innovation in education - but unless policy makers walk that talk, it isn’t going to happen.

@officiallahiru Access to a “good” school depends on money and connections, access to good A/L tuition depends on money - and if you have enough money you can easily abuse the district quota by being enrolled in a poor district and going for tuition in a good district
@officiallahiru district quota system =/= z-score (+ existed prior to introduction of z-score); the quota system is problematic because it “tries” to resolve inequality at district level (there are greater discrepancies within districts, even within zones); while the actual inequality is class
This identity is so routinely marginalized, gaslit and excluded that we don’t usually even realize that the voices of over 2 billion people are going unheard… the voices of children.
#EFRJ2024#EFRJConference
At the last plenary of the @EuForumRJ’s Int Conf - on systemic violence and restorative justice - @sifaan made a request: Affirmative action to include, at the next conf, a marginalized group that is often systemically excluded from spaces where decisions are made about them.
And although the conference itself is not such a decision making space, it is one where hearing people’s lived experience is valued - and it can lead the way in including this marginalized identity.
(not just corporal or other forms of punishment, but any practice or experience that harms the dignity of the child) which otherwise can be transmitted intergenerationally #EFRJ2024#EFRJConference#Tallinn#Estonia
A memorable circle hosted by co-founder @sifaan at the 12th International Conference of the @EuForumRJ on how Restorative Practices could help address the invisible inner-child trauma arising from normalized violence against children
Rather than focusing on the individual manifestation (and expecting the child to practice mindfulness to manage stress) shouldn’t we be fixing the rat race of an education system to not be stressful?
Interesting statement by Dr. Priyangie Amarabandu at the Global Mindfulness Summit that the main cause of school children using drugs is stress from education, and that mindfulness helps them manage the stress.
If you're going to study animal behaviour, you'd have to decide whether it's in captivity, or in their natural habitat: you wouldn’t expect them to be the same.
If you're going to study children... wait, where are the children in their natural habitats?

@kavindya_T The NEPF 2023-2033 drafted by an anonymous group (none of whom are accountable for it) is a trainwreck in every respect (except for those seeking to profit from education - it’s a bonanza for them)
@UmeshMoramudali@sujatagamage@kavindya_T that too makes private higher education more attractive. If the NEPF gets implemented, even the meagre tax money spent on public higher ed will be siphoned to private providers as students move to them and the govt grants move with them
@sujatagamage@UmeshMoramudali@kavindya_T And it does an anti-Robin Hood of robbing the poor + middle-class of their Right to Education (the NEPF does not even give a token acknowledgment to Education as a Right; neither does the World Bank because that's antithetical to their Human Capital Development mantra)
@sujatagamage@UmeshMoramudali@kavindya_T For 1.59% of govt expenditure there were ~14k enrolments in 2000; by 2021 it's almost 4x enrolments (~44k) for only 1.98% of govt expenditure.
All segments of education are underfunded and all NEPF proposes to do is rob Peter to pay Paul
