🇰🇷 SOUTH KOREA OFFERS U.S. ENERGY IMPORT BOOST TO AVOID NEW TARIFFS
South Korea is preparing economic concessions to prevent more Trump-era tariffs.
Trade Minister Cheong Inkyo, now in Washington, said Seoul is reviewing proposals aimed at shrinking its trade surplus with the U.S.—including boosting American liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.
Trump has demanded trade partners eliminate bilateral deficits to qualify for tariff relief.
LNG is expected to headline the offers as South Korea seeks to protect its export-heavy economy.
The push reflects rising pressure on allies to accommodate Trump's tough stance on trade imbalances ahead of upcoming negotiations.
A deal could avert additional duties while deepening U.S.–Korea energy ties.
