Dear Scott Harris,
As a lifelong @tigers fan I have seen this happen before. We have a player who is considered the top player that is going to be on the market for free agency this offseason. The last player we had this happen with was Max Scherzer. We had what was considered THE best team in Baseball. Did we win it all? No. What happened after the season? Scherzer walked away and signed with the Nationals. Now you are considering buying at the deadline because you think we can still win it all and we hope we can. No Tigers fan WANTS to lose, but if you are planning on buying at the deadline then I think I speak for most if not all Tigers fans out there when I say: we cannot go through this again by losing out superstar player at the end of the season again and not have anything but a comp pick in the draft to show for it. If you are going to buy then you NEED to extend Skubal at all costs right now. If you are not able to do that. If he wants to be here long term, tell him to tell Boras to “Make him a Tiger for life” otherwise you need to trade him right away because we need to get something out of him if he doesn’t want to be here and sign a contract. We can still compete by trading him for some bats with the arms that we have. We need some hope for this team and winning and buying at the deadline would bring some short lived hope but it will be much more impactful to this fanbase if you extend him. So please if you are going to buy, buy this fanbase some security by extending him asap, otherwise get as much as you can for him build for next year.

Ok so my take on this run of the Tigers. Do I want this to be the beginning of an amazing run to the WS? Of course. Do I think it will? Probably not, but let’s say it is a run in which they feel they ARE contenders. If we don’t trade Skubal, then we need to stand pat and not make any trades. This team is showing signs of life at the plate now and the answer I feel at least isn’t to run out and trade your young players. It’s bring some up. Bring up Clark, Anderson, and recall Jobe. Those moves imo would boost this lineup tenfold #DNMW
