Thom Tillis wants to debate taxpayer dollars, so let’s have that debate. Every deportation costs the American taxpayer about $18,000. As Secretary, I sent a clear message to anyone here illegally: leave voluntarily or face deportation. Millions chose to self-deport.
Under my leadership at DHS, encouraging self-deportation saved taxpayers over $40 billion and allowed law enforcement to pursue other dangerous criminals on our streets. That doesn’t even include the costs avoided when people decided not to enter our country illegally in the first place. Tillis complains about advertising costs but conveniently ignores the taxpayer’s savings.
I also cut $15 billion in lucrative contracts that the same good old boys’ companies had benefited from for years. On my watch, they had to answer for how they spent Americans’ money.
President Trump promised to enforce our laws and protect Americans. I helped him deliver. Americans deserve the full record, not another self-serving television performance from Thom Tillis. January 3rd can’t come soon enough for the patriots in North Carolina that the Senator has turned his back on.
In response to the DISHONEST @nytimes about their factually incorrect article today…
I write to formally request the retraction entirely or explicit correction of the article titled 'Kristi Noem’s Agency Gave Her Donor a Lucrative Contract Just Before She Left.'
The article's characterization of the individual as a "donor" (confirmed not to be the case) is materially misleading and, as unsupported by the factual record, conveys a false implication of a direct financial relationship obviously intended to influence official action.
Accuracy is fundamental to responsible journalism. If the individual did not personally make political contributions to Secretary Noem, or if the term 'donor' instead refers indirectly to unrelated entities or legally distinct contributions, the article simply fails to meet the standards of precision expected of The New York Times.
Numerous times clarifications were made to the journalists responsible for this libelous story. Such wording unfairly prejudices readers and creates an inference of impropriety that is not supported by the underlying facts.
President Noboa and I are both committed to taking on the cartels and organized crime, making our countries safer, and creating opportunities for businesses to thrive. Before our Shield of the Americas meeting at UNGA last week, we discussed using better technology to strengthen Ecuador’s borders and ports and how we can help open the door for more American businesses to come to Ecuador. Building these partnerships is what the Shield of the Americas is all about - working together to create a more a secure and prosperous future for us and our neighbors.
Fantastic weekend at Paul Nelson Farms in South Dakota hunting with @pheasants4ever ! I became a dual patron member and am so proud to support such a strong conservation organization.
Another Governor’s Buffalo Round-up in the books! Thank you Governor Rhoden for hosting and Kevin Robling for inviting me to ride this year. Loved seeing everyone and Blondie and I so enjoyed the majestic Buffalo, beautiful scenery and wonderful people! @klairesealeyphotography
https://t.co/4EaErFYhRn - You guys suck and you should apologize to him for dragging his reputation through the mud. You did it to score political points against his mother-in-law. You are a tabloid. NOT reporters. He won. He was right. Publish that.
Oh my goodness, what a special day. ❤️. Today the Trail of Governors Committee unveiled my official statue and portrait on the state capitol grounds - and my grandchildren did the honors. Everywhere I looked, there were people I loved who have stood by our family as we served the people of SD. Thank you Jesus for your faithfulness.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the 8th Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
I want to thank President Trump for entrusting me to lead the department leading the fight to Make America Safe Again. In one year, the patriots at DHS delivered the MOST secure border in American history, 3 million illegal aliens have left the U.S., located 145,000 unaccompanied children, delivered disaster relief at a 100% faster rate, ushered in the golden age of travel, saved the American taxpayer $13 billion, and revitalized the U.S. Coast Guard.
As Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas, I will build on the years of national security expertise I forged during my time as Secretary of Homeland Security, Governor of South Dakota, and Congresswoman on the House Armed Services Committee.
The courageous men and women of @USCG heroically rescued seven people and one dog during flash floods on Oahu, Hawaii, on Friday in a joint operation with @USNavy aircrews.
Along with our @TSA agents and other furloughed employees, many of our Coast Guard personnel are working without pay during this THIRD government shutdown.
Thank you to all our heroes across the nation who continue working tirelessly to protect our homeland.
The Democrats must end this shutdown and reopen @DHSgov.

Ten straight months of ZERO illegal aliens released at the border. President Trump promised to secure the Border, and that is a promise we delivered.
We have the most secure border in American history. Our borders are CLOSED to lawbreakers.
I am so grateful that the House Republicans passed Dalilah’s Law out of @TransportGOP Committee.
What happened to Dalilah Coleman is a tragedy that could have been PREVENTED if California had not granted commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens who should have never been here in the first place.
Under President Trump's leadership, we have worked to deliver justice for the families impacted by illegal alien crime and have ensured that the tragedies they endured will no longer continue.
🚨JUST IN: Dalilah’s Law passed @TransportGOP and is headed to the house floor.
I’m extremely grateful to our strong House Republican leadership, for putting American lives first, and for sweet Dalilah Coleman and her father, Marcus Coleman spearheading this monumental change in trucking safety.
@RepDavidRouzer’s bill, Dalilah’s Law, is simple:
🗣️ NO English, NO license
🚛 States must verify CDLs aren’t issued to illegal immigrants
👮♂️ More penalties for states that failed to comply including federal funding being withheld
