Today, I sent @GovAndyBeshear a letter demanding answers about his repeated claim that “35 rural hospitals in Kentucky will close” because of the Working Families Tax Cut. The UNC Sheps Center analysis they used to create that number never said 35 Kentucky hospitals would close and was completed nearly a month before the final law was enacted, before accounting for the hundreds of millions of dollars Kentucky is set to receive over the next five years from the Working Families Tax Cut.

Now the Commonwealth has been provided $212.9 million in first-year funding, yet @GovAndyBeshear’s plan does not clearly identify or prioritize a single one of those 35 hospitals.

If these hospitals are truly headed toward closure, use the money Congressional Republicans provided to help them. If they aren’t, stop telling Kentuckians they are.

Dolly Parton, the country music icon whose larger-than-life personality and legendary songs made her one of America’s most beloved entertainers, has passed away. She was 80.

Parton died peacefully Tuesday in Nashville, according to her family. A cause of death was not immediately released.

From humble beginnings in Tennessee to hits like “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” Parton built a seven-decade career spanning music, movies, television and philanthropy, becoming a country legend and global superstar along the way.

"Dolly has lived in the light, and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens,” her nephew Bryan Seaver said the family's video announcement of her passing.

Dr. Alvarado has lived and worked in Kentucky longer than Dembo has been old enough to vote. He’s spent decades caring for Kentuckians and even maintained his Kentucky medical practice while serving as Tennessee’s Health Commissioner.

Meanwhile, Dembo left Kentucky at 18 and bounced around California, Mississippi, Michigan, and Virginia before conveniently finding his way home when a congressional seat caught his eye.

Dr. Alvarado made Kentucky his home. Dembo treats it like a flyover state between Nantucket fundraisers and visits to B-list Hollywood liberals’ hobby “farms.”

So spare us the lecture on who’s a real Kentuckian, Zach. It's as weird as it is insincere.
