“Toronto The Good” 🏴🍁🇬🇧
A clip from an interview with Leslie Saunders, Toronto’s 51st Mayor, in which he describes the “Old Toronto” he knew. He was defeated in 1955 by Nathan Phillips, Toronto’s first Jewish Mayor.
@yzfraven It’s the Warrior. Transferred to Canada from Britain in 1946, but was transferred back in 1948. The Bonaventure was first called HMS Powerful in 1945, but was laid up. Canada bought her in 1952 and renamed her, but wasn’t ready until 1957. I made a video for the “Bonnie” too.
@torcargail@kkklanadian I find them in the Helen Creighton folksong collection in the Nova Scotia Archives. She was one of the pioneers of Canadian Folklore studies, along with Edith Fowke 🫡🍁🏴
