Also, the split should be 15 Division 1, 16 Division 2, 16 Division 3. If you choose to do a North/Central/South, minimum for each conference should be 5 teams. Conference champs are auto qualified, and either the remaining 5 entries are decided by the old points system, or top 2 of each qualify and the remaining 2 at large are best points system of the remaining 3 seeds. If you do a North/South only, it’s very simple and easy to do a top 4 of each and 1 North plays 4 South, 2 North plays 3 South, etc.
A European style relegation/elevation system would be very interesting. State champions guaranteed to elevate, 2 teams with lowest performance relegate. It’s logical, but there becomes concern about schools controlling their fate in the bottom and trying to be relegated if they have a disastrous year one of the realignment cycle. You’d like to think that wouldn’t happen, but these days you never know unfortunately
@BradMyersTNJ Congrats on an amazing career Brad! Your impact on the #delhs community is unquantifiable, and you will be sorely missed! Enjoy retirement!
Salesianum mourns the passing of longtime wrestling coach and educator John Rusnak, who died on September 30.
For 34 years, beginning in 1969, Coach Rusnak helped build the foundation of Salesianum Wrestling. His teams compiled a 248-123-4 record, produced 25 winning seasons, finished as state runner-up twice, and captured the program’s first state championship in 1984. During his years at Salesianum, he also taught science and served as head freshman football coach. His impact on wrestling was recognized with his induction into the Delaware State Wrestling Association Hall of Fame in 2001.
But for the generations of wrestlers he coached, his legacy extends well beyond wins and championships. Coach Rusnak was a mentor to many of his wrestlers, teaching them to carry themselves with class, treat others with respect, and win or lose with dignity. Even after retirement, he remained part of the wrestling family and could regularly be found at matches supporting the program.
One of his favorite sayings captured the standard he set: “Respect isn’t given. It’s earned.”
For more than three decades, Coach Rusnak helped shape a wrestling Brotherhood that has lasted long beyond his time on the mat. We extend our prayers to the Rusnak family and to the many wrestlers whose lives he touched.
May he rest in peace.
@SeanGreeneWDEL We practice this every Thursday. 10 guys hold like their life depends on it, and qb stay on the back of the endzone until you can’t anymore! Was weather a factor? I keep hearing about the nor’easter coming
@AngieSee21@lisajay47_ I honestly don't know exactly how to put this into words, but | just want you to know how much I truly appreciate the opportunity you introduced me to. It has genuinely been a great help to me and my family,❤️
Joe Thomas says he cried after playing a perfect game in a 30 point loss to Tom Brady and realized he had spent 10 years fooling himself into believing the Browns were a Super Bowl team before each season
“The way I entered every season was like, if I need to get the most out of myself, I’ve got to convince myself this is a Super Bowl roster. That’s the mentality I have to have when I’m training, when I’m practicing, when I’m going through film study. And so you trick yourself every year, but after a while, you’re not that dumb anymore”
“Going into year 10, we had traded away the first overall pick. We were trading guys away, saving capital for the future. The writing was on the wall that we were in a pretty significant rebuild. I kind of knew at that time, even though I was still trying to trick myself, in the back of your head you know you’re not going to be any good”
“Then, about midway through that 10th season, we were playing the Patriots. Tom Brady comes to town, and I fucking hated Tom Brady, as everybody did in the league. I hated the Patriots. I just wanted to smash him so bad. We lost like 30 to 0. And I remember sitting in the car after the game, and I was just crying. I had ice on both elbows and knees. I was in pain, my wife was driving and I was just looking out the window. It was that moment when I realized I’d been kind of fooling myself for a while, and we were not going to win no matter what I did”
“She finally said, ‘Are you okay? Did you have a bad game?’ Then the tears really came because I said, ‘I played a perfect game, and we lost by 30.’ It really sunk in at that moment that you don’t control the situation anymore. That feeling of loss of control is really hard. No matter what situation you’re in in life, it just feels like everything I’m working for, I have no control over the outcome. That’s a bad feeling”
“I ended up meeting with the team psychologist and talking to somebody about it because it had been almost 10 years built up to that moment when you come to the realization that I’m kind of fooling myself. We’re not that team and we really don’t have a chance. And I don’t impact this game the way I’d hoped”
@Matt_Stepp817 In Delaware high school ball it is mandatory running clock when up by 35 in the second half. Anything before second half is agreed upon by both coaches
