Alumni Spotlight: Omotunde Adebowale-David AKA Lolo1 – Broadcaster, Actress, Comedienne
Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo1, is one of Nigeria’s most recognisable radio voices, television actresses and stand-up comediennes, and a proud graduate of the Faculty of Law at Lagos State University. She is a trained lawyer turned broadcaster, an award-winning On-Air Personality, an actress best known for her role as Adaku in the long-running series Jenifa’s Diary, and a sought-after Master of Ceremonies and stage comedienne.
Born on 27th April 1977 in Lagos State, she hails from a Yoruba family from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State. She attended Ijebu-Ode Anglican Girls’ School, where she spent part of her school years in the hostel, developing the independence, confidence and love of public speaking that would later define her career. As a child known for holding her own in speeches and debates, her parents encouraged her towards a career in law rather than the entertainment world she was drawn to.
She enrolled at Lagos State University, where she obtained her degree in Law, and went on to law school before being called to the Nigerian Bar. She then practised law for about three years. By her own account in later interviews, the harsh, dismissive culture she encountered in chambers meetings became a turning point, pushing her to walk away from the profession and pursue the entertainment career she had always wanted.
Her move into media began in 2004, when she joined Radio Nigeria under the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, before moving to Metro FM in Lagos. Her big break came at Wazobia FM 95.1, where she became widely known for hosting the show “Oga Madam” and, in a moment of listener engagement, put out a call for a nickname, receiving thousands of entries before settling on “Lolo,” a name meaning “queen” in Igbo. She spent over eleven years at Wazobia FM before leaving in 2019 to join Lasgidi FM as General Manager and on-air personality.
On screen, Lolo1 became a household name through her comic role as Adaku in Jenifa’s Diary, the hit spin-off of Funke Akindele’s film Jenifa, a part she played for close to a decade. Beyond the series, she has featured in a wide range of Nollywood films, including Finding Hubby and its sequel, Kunle Afolayan’s coming-of-age drama Mokalik, the romantic comedy Knockout, and Aunty Ada, in which she took the lead role. In 2020 she stepped behind the camera as producer of her debut film, When Love Is Not Enough, directed by Okiki Afolayan.
Alongside broadcasting and acting, she built a strong reputation as a stand-up comedienne, sharing stages with the likes of Ali Baba, Basketmouth, AY Makun and Bovi. She turned her radio persona into a live stage franchise with “Oga Madam Live on Stage with Lolo,” which debuted at the MUSON Centre in Lagos in 2012 to a sold-out crowd and has since toured audiences in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United States. She later extended this into the comedy showcase “Lolo1 & Friends.”
Her contributions to broadcasting have been formally recognised, including the On-Air Personality of the Year (Female) award at the 2016 City People Entertainment Awards and a nomination for Outstanding Radio Program Presenter at the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards the same year. She was also named the first ambassador of Awabah, a micro pensions company, extending her influence beyond entertainment. Outside her media and screen work, she founded the NGO Caring Sisters, focused on women’s issues, and organises an annual talent show, “Song Outbreak,” to support young people in her community.
From a courtroom in training to one of the most listened-to voices on Nigerian radio and one of its most familiar comic faces on screen, her journey us that of determination, passion, versatility and reach that left a blaze in her trail.

We are LASU, We are Great!
Alumni Spotlight: Steve Onu AKA Yaw - OAP/MC, Actor, Producer/Director Yaw { 95.1 Wazobia FM}
Steve ONU popularly known by his stage name "Yaw", is one of Nigeria's most recognisable broadcasters, comedians and stage actors, and a proud graduate of the Department of Theatre Arts at Lagos State University. He is a trained actor, on-air personality, voice-over artiste, Master of Ceremonies (MC), and a multi-award winner (City People Awards and Mode Men Awards for Best OAP, among many others).
A native of Awka in Anambra State, Yaw was born and raised in Lagos as the seventh of ten children. He first entered LASU in 1995 for a diploma in Radio, Television and Film Production, before going on to earn his degree in Theatre Arts at the University's Ojo campus. During his time at LASU, he was a founding member of the campus drama group Optimum Konsortium, and he studied under respected theatre scholars including Dr Sola FOSUDO and Dr Tunji AZEEZ (both of whom are now professors).
The stage was where his craft was first forged. Yaw performed in radio drama for the British Broadcasting Corporation, including the series "Story Story", and appeared in stage productions such as Ahmed Yerima's Fall of a King and Wole Soyinka's The Trials of Brother Jero. He was a regular at stage productions at the MUSON Centre in Lagos, and as a producer in his own right he has staged works including Po!, Private Lies, Last Molue and April Fool.
On screen, Yaw built his name through popular television productions including Twilight Zone, Flat Mates (the role that gave him the name "Yaw"), Dear Mother and Fuji House of Commotion. He later created his own television sitcom, Yaw's N Myn.
Yaw rose to national fame as an On-Air Personality at Wazobia FM (95.1), where his morning show Make Una Wake, broadcast daily from 6 am to noon, made him one of the most listened-to voices in the country. His distinctive command of pidgin English, warmth and quick wit turned the show into a Lagos institution and drew listeners well beyond the city.
Alongside his broadcasting, he is a sought-after comedian, Master of Ceremonies and event producer, a true all-round entertainer.
In 2025, his international standing was further recognised when he was appointed the first Advisory Board Member of the International Comedy and Arts Film Festival (TICAFF) in Canada, a festival held under the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF). The role places his decades of experience in comedy, film, theatre and production in service of a global platform for African and international comedic storytelling. He was also honoured with a Certificate of Recognition by the City of Brampton, Canada, during the Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival (BINFF) 2nd Annual Gala Awards.
His story is also one of remarkable resilience. Before his rise, Yaw sold water on the streets of Lagos and worked as a bus conductor to make ends meet. From those beginnings to becoming one of the nation's most celebrated voices, his journey embodies the determination, creativity and excellence that LASU is proud to nurture.
