Why is Trump attacking Iran?

It’s not a major threat to the U.S.
It’s not an economic rival

And it’s depleting American munition stockpiles, which are already at their lowest levels in years, the same stockpiles America needs to counter a future Chinese threat

Well, the reason is actually China

China has made it very clear it wants to unify with Taiwan, a country at the core of the global semiconductor industry

So how can the U.S. prevent this?

China is very dependent on imports for its energy, and Iran is a major oil supplier for the country

Controlling Iran, or weakening Iran where it can no longer export enough oil to China, makes China vulnerable

Should the strategy work, then the U.S. can threaten to choke off energy to China if it invades Taiwan (through not only Iran, but also Venezuela and the Panama Canal, both which Trump targeted in his first year)

The U.S. controlling these energy chokepoints can act as a deterrent, preventing China from making a move on Taiwan due to the massive economic risks involved

If Trump succeeds in Iran, it may end up preventing a wider conflict over Taiwan.

But if he fails, and the Iranian regime outlasts the U.S. and Israel, then the U.S. military will end up weaker, and China more emboldened
