The Guardian picked up my Harvard Carr-Ryan Center commentary. Let's hope the judges on the Privy Council tilt in favour of equality and human rights in the Caribbean

CHARLES HAUGHEY: GLORY, GREED AND GUNS, my new biography of one of the most influential, divisive and fascinating figures in modern Irish history.
Drawing on decades of reporting, political analysis and personal observation, I examine Haughey's rise to power, the controversies that surrounded him, and the lasting impact he had on Irish politics and public life.
A story of ambition, charisma, power and contradiction, this is an account of a man who helped shape modern Ireland. Out 22 Oct 2026.

Writing today about the early challenges that face Andy Burnham as he takes on the job of Prime Minister. Some parallels with my own experience of becoming Taoiseach back in 2017 https://t.co/ZI2CaMEpJX
We spend €30bn a year on social protection, and less than €2Bn on defence yet the Gov still gets accused of “militarism” by the far left. Facts truly don’t matter to them.

@normafoley@GovIE Yes, there are complex legal and clinical issues to be considered but the UK Government has found a way through. Almost 6 years since it was promised, we have yet to see a draft from the Irish Government or even a target date. Why?

Congratulations to Liv Bailey MP @oliviabaileymp , Minister for Equalities in the UK on publishing a draft bill to ban conversion practices used on LGBT people. The draft has been welcomed by Stonewall, Dr Hilary Cass, the Church of England and the Royal College of Psychiatrists (1/2)

35 countries in the Americas - only 5 still criminalise homosexuality. All are anglophone & formerly British colonies. In this Harvard commentary, I explain why it is no coincidence. On July 8th, a few days after Pride, the Privy Council in London will hear a landmark case on the matter

Nine in ten recent school leavers or graduates from universities in Ireland are in jobs. We have one the highest employment rate of recent graduates in the EU. Only Malta, Germany and the Netherlands do better. A positive sign of a powerful economy offering strong prospects. 🇮🇪👍
Ironically, the only realistic way to prevent onward migration from the UK is through all-island migration controls (a United Ireland).
A hard border is not feasible — there are over 200 public road crossings along the border, not counting the numerous minor crossings.
What a weekend for Irish cricket!
After a first-ever win over India on Friday, Ireland stunned the world champions for a second time as they inflicted a first T20 series defeat on them since 2023.
