#FBF: Then & Now – The Old US Mint
Built in the architectural style of Greek Revival, currently houses @nolajazzmuseum & is home to the Louisiana Historical Center. The building used to be a branch of the United States Mint from 1838 to 1861 & later from 1879 to 1909.
The Donald M. Marquis Reading Room will be closed Monday and Tuesday for Mardi Gras; regular hours will resume Wednesday, February 26. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Jackson monument inauguration #OTD 1856. Sculptor Clark Mills told the crowd of 60k “The statue before you represents one who proved himself the saviour of your beautiful city. Gen. Jackson is there represented as he appeared on the morning of the 8th of January, 41 years ago.”
Researcher Jeanne Peet came by to view these items created by her great-great grandfather, Marie-Adrien Persac, in the 1850s. The first image comes from “Norman’s Chart of the Lower Mississippi River,” from 1858, & the second, “Dr. John Dominique’s Store,” is from 1857.

Did you know the Louisiana Historical Center has family bibles? Today, we were visited by a researcher whose family donated this 1775 bible (accession number 07977.1) in 1921.
