Congratulations to our September 2026 Board Award Honorees!
This month we had the privilege of celebrating a student of the month from each of our schools, staff of the month, volunteer of the month, Sustainability Advocate of the Month (the Spencer Loomis Eco Club), and student accomplishments at the IHSA Track and Field state meets and the Illinois Junior Academy of Science Annual State Science Exposition.
This group of inspiring students and adults demonstrate the District's Values and Vision (Portrait of a Graduate characteristics), and we are so proud to recognize their great work. Great job, everyone - keep it up!

YOM KIPPUR (Judaism)
Yom Kippur is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. It is a day dedicated to atonement and introspection, where individuals seek forgiveness for wrongdoings and make commitments to improve in the coming year. Many engage in fasting, prayer, and attend special synagogue services. It’s a time for deep personal reflection and communal support.
When greeting someone observing Yom Kippur, a respectful way to wish them well is to say, "G'mar Chatimah Tovah," which means "May you be sealed for good [in the Book of Life]." Alternatively, you can simply say "Have an easy fast" if they are fasting, or “May all your prayers be heard on this holy day”.
This is one of a series of educational posts about some of the major religious holidays celebrated by families in District 95, to continue educating and creating greater understanding across our learning community.

ROSH HASHANAH (Judaism)
Rosh Hashanah celebrates the Jewish New Year, which begins this year on September 11th (at sunset) and ends on the evening of September 13th. It begins a 10-day period of reflection, prayer, and intentions for the new year. Some families celebrate with festive meals featuring symbolic foods, such as apples dipped in honey for a sweet year. Many attend synagogue services to engage in prayer and community.
When greeting someone observing Rosh Hashanah, a common greeting is "Shanah Tovah," which means "Good year" or simply “Happy New Year”.

On Friday night, District 95 had the honor of celebrating the life and memory of Logan Pfeifer, one of the Bears’ biggest fans, with his family at the first football game of the 2026 season.
Logan truly was “Forever a Fan” of the Lake Zurich Bears. He could regularly be found attending athletic events, and his enthusiasm for LZHS made him a special part of the school community.
To ensure Logan’s spirit remains part of Lake Zurich High School for generations to come, the LZHS Bear mascot has been named Logan in his honor, and the indoor concession stand will soon officially become “Logan’s Den.” Additionally, Logan’s family joined the LZHS captains on the football field for this season’s inaugural coin toss.
Every day, we celebrate Logan’s life and the joy he brought our community. Logan will always have a place at Lake Zurich High School and will be Forever a Fan.
