Sa lahat ng panahon, sa anumang panahon, malaya ang alagad ng sining! -Lav Diaz, Filmmaker
Translation: The artist must assert his freedom at all times, in any condition, in any situation.
GENUS PAN (2020, dir. Lav Diaz) – Very good expansion on the 2018 portmanteau film, Lakbyan. Filled in a lot of the narrative gaps from the abridged version. The (shockingly) longer cut of 157 mins offers Lav's patient filmmaking in new light. #QCinemaOnUPSTREAM
Bart Guingona and especially Nanding Josef fill the entire screen with their guilt and unresolved anger. I would've loved to see an extended version of this film with just these two going head-to-head. The film's most complex emotions and memorable moments belong to them.
