A total of 9 488 foreign nationals have now been repatriated and deported from the Durban Drive-In site in an orderly, lawful and humane manner. An estimated 7 000 individuals remain at this site, although more people do arrive even as verification and operations continue. The Sherwood site has been cleared.
The Malawian nationals who were left stranded at Newlands in Johannesburg have also all been repatriated after Home Affairs stepped in to assist.
In Pietermaritzburg, 657 people have been repatriated from a site with inhumane conditions, and operations will continue into the night.
Home Affairs and the IMC continues to collaborate with colleagues across all spheres of government to ensure a well-managed process, while reaffirming that no person may engage in violence, incitement or infringe on the dignity of any other human being.
NEWS: The Department of Education in Gauteng has written to all public schools in the province and gave them lists of learners who were registered without proper documents.
While there are South African learners without documents, the list, in most schools, is dominated by children of alleged illegal immigrants.
