Music stuff @oxfculturalprog. Trustee @StreetwiseOpera, @BritArtsFests & @GFEnsemble. Loves long walks & long books. Incurably curious. All views my own.
Whoop!!!! So proud to be a trustee of this wonderful organisation. Hats off to the fantastic team and all the performers. I went to see the MCR edition of Rediscover and it was just brilliant.
Couldn’t be prouder of the incredible @StreetwiseOpera performers, artists, & team, for winning the #RPS Impact Award! Fantastic recognition of their extraordinary talent & the power of opera to transform lives. Huge thanks to @RoyalPhilSoc & everyone who supports our work!
Feels really gratifying to see this research published just as I step down from the BAFA board - it’s been a labour of love by so many . The people who make this sector tick are just the best, and as this report shows, achieving a huge amount with relatively little.
This is an incredibly important piece of research on the festivals sector. Details the challenges and the opportunity all backed up by data.
With huge thanks to @valmcdermid for lending her voice to the work.
Saw a great callout for a composer this am. Was just about to share when I clocked that it was listed as unpaid. Hoping it’s a mistake in the form, but this for a project funded by @ace_national DYCP and on their jobs board. I thought ACE didn’t allow unpaid jobposts anymore?
Really looking forward to being at the #OperaAwards2024 in Munich tomorrow with @StreetwiseOpera celebrating our nomination for Equal Opportunities and Impact Award!!! If you want to find out more about our latest project, Re:Discover, see here: https://t.co/8YRG0pEaQJ
The unknown previous reader of my book doesn’t hold back on margin notes…this is one of many and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be sharing a convivial pint with DH Lawrence given the opportunity 🤣
Stroud’s @HiddenNotes_ really is a special little festival. Lovely wander in the sonic woodland @HawkwoodCFT and a great lineup this afternoon to while away a grey afternoon. Roll on @WillGregoryMoog to top off a maxed out minimalist-ish day…😊
@CinziaYates I definitely scowled 🤣🤣 and generally the RR still are beautifully silent, to be fair. That’s kind of why it stood out. I get that sometimes a quick convo is necessary but they quite evidently planned to meet there to discuss whatever they were working on. 🙄
Grrr… (🚨grump alert!) since when did the @britishlibrary reading rooms become collaborative working spaces? It’s not as if there isn’t a ton of space in all the foyer areas if you’re just here for the wifi and a chat with your mate about what they’re typing into their laptop 😤
Still thinking about @RolfHind’s extraordinary Sky in a Small Cage w. @mahoganyopera,@RiotEns,@AaronHNahum,@ElaineMitchener,@jdahall at @BarbicanCentre last night. Wild, riveting open & close but my standout moment was the scene w.@lorelixenberg’s 1st set of vocal somersaults.
Chronic pain is an impossible thing… often, you *look* well, and you want to be functioning without fuss, but when you can’t, suddenly everything falls apart. 👏🏼👏🏼@BBCr4today for covering this.
“I felt incapable, I felt hollowed out by it… I lost my sense of self.”
BBC presenter Kirsty Young speaks to @EmmaBarnett about the impact of living with chronic pain, and how she learned to accept her condition.

When is this madness going to stop? The real people protecting our country and our people are in places like this working day in day out and paying no heed to these obnoxious views.
I don’t often tweet about personal things, but I’m sat in a ward waiting for a hospital discharge watching a nurse work her way round all the non-white staff, checking they’re not getting the bus at the end of their shift tomorrow, to make sure they won’t walk through…
the centre of our town - where riots (I refuse to call them protests) are planned. Today, I have had FAULTLESS, empathetic, competent care from people whose accents tell me they’re probably not British born, but my goodness, we are so lucky that they want to be part of our NHS.
A glimpse of @binghamcomposer’s fabulous new clarinet quintet, ‘Elsewhere’, premiered by me and the amazing @elias_quartet last week @ThreeChoirs. Inspired by tiny, easily overlooked details in Botticelli paintings, this movement depicts the wasp nest hiding in ‘Venus and Mars’
