Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first open weekend in far too long! Our animals were delighted to see their friends (and receive extra snacks from the many, many bags of feed, the purchase of which goes directly toward the care of our animals).
It’s our 55th birthday! On May 21, 1966, the Leonis Adobe Museum opened to restore, preserve, and share California ranch life as it was in the 19th century.
We're excited to welcome you back to the rancho Saturday, May 22nd, 10am-4pm and Sunday, May 23rd, 1pm-4pm! Masks and physical distancing between groups of visitors required 😷 Vaquero costumes appreciated 🤠
Have you read this month's #Passport2History newsletter yet? We're still working on our reopening plan, but in the meantime, some of our friends in the P2H program are ready to welcome you back!

We love seeing the talent in our community. Museum guide James Severtson painted this view of the adobe house, and we can’t get enough of how he captured the way the golden hour lighting makes our grounds glow.
Our lambs are getting so big! The male lambs like Francis here are starting to get their horns. The first two or three years are when horns grow fastest, but it's always a surprise seeing our bottle babies turn into little rams at only about two months of age!
Leon is loving the return of sunny weather. With the official start of spring just days away, we're all looking forward to warm days and spring flowers ahead!
Executive Director Diane often says horses are a lot like big dogs. Goliath confirms this in three particular ways:
1) Always prances over to greet you 👋
2) LOVES to play 🐎
3) Sloppy, wet kisses 😝
The garden is ready for this year's planting, though we've had some unexpected guests enjoying the fertilizer. Fun fact: we fertilize the garden beds using manure from our own percheron horses!
@Off_Mulholland Not just yet, unfortunately! But you can keep up to date with the flock on our Instagram, where we're posting more photos, videos, and stories of the new additions.
The group in the barn doubled over the weekend: added to the flock are two twin boys we've named Camarillo and Clovis, and our first little lady of the season, Avalon! Camarillo and Clovis join Francis on Team Bottle Baby, keeping the museum staff well occupied! 🤪🍼
We're partnering with museums across CA in supporting CA’s COVID-19 health guidelines:
😷 Wear your mask
📏 Keep your distance (6 ft+)
🏠 Stay home if you’re sick
🖐️ Wash your hands frequently

We got to welcome @razzlebamboom to the rancho recently to film episodes for their #StartWithHeart series! Educators might recognize them from their awesome assemblies at local schools. We're happy to say Puey the Pig was an excellent museum visitor! https://t.co/alXAUwr990
