[WATCH] A year ago, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi stood before the nation, clad in Special Task Force combat uniform and flanked by heavily armed officers during his no-holds-barred press briefing. Mkhwanazi levelled explosive allegations of political interference, corruption and organised crime within South Africa's criminal justice system. Those claims ultimately led to the establishment of the Madlanga Commission, parliamentary investigations and a series of criminal cases now before the courts. @Vee_Makhoali has more.
[COMMENT]
Today marks one year since Lt.Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi delivered an explosive public address that changed the national conversation on policing, organised crime, corruption and political interference in South Africa.
His allegations sent shockwaves through the country and triggered intense public debate, investigations, arrests and a judicial commission of inquiry.
Over the past 12 months, South Africans have witnessed testimony, evidence and developments that continue to shape the future of law enforcement and criminal justice.
No individual, regardless of rank, position or influence, should be above the law.
The fight against organised crime and corruption is far from over. It requires courage, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
South Africa deserves a criminal justice system that serves its people without fear, favour or political interference.
The pursuit of truth and justice must continue.
Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi: "This is factually incorrect. The Ghanian national who was fatally wounded was attacked at his place of work on Monday (not on protest day), in an incident that the police believe to be extortion related. It is concerning that Ghanian authorities continue to communicate false information about South Africa regarding developments on migration. No fatalities have been recorded during the day of the protests. The spread of false information to perpetuate the false narrative that South Africa is xenophobic is unacceptable"
Today our government will give you a FULL display of ALL the resources they had claimed they donβt have! Look at how organized they are. All the state departments will be fully functional and responsive. They will work full hours and over time. Every possible piece of equipment and security gadgets will work. High tech equipment will be dispatched to monitor everyone. The team leaders will be accountable and will have reports in record time. Police Nyalas, Helicopters, Vans etc. The Navy, Army and Private Security! All of the fireworks.
The government has power, they just not in the business of caring for YOUR needs.
South Africans, at what point do we admit that we have normalised failure?
How do we accept a system where citizens can lose up to 41% of their salaries to tax, yet corruption continues to thrive, rural roads remain undrivable, municipalities collapse, and local councillors operate with little to no accountability?
Taxation without visible service delivery is not governance; it is betrayal.
This country does not lack money. It lacks ethical leadership, consequence management, and political will. We cannot keep comparing ourselves to countries like Qatar and pretending the difference is luck. The difference is leadership, planning, discipline and accountability.
South Africa deserves a government that respects every rand taken from its people. The amount of tax we are paying is just insaneππ
YES YES YES! GOAAAAAAAAAAAAL πΏπ¦π₯
