Centred around the historic city wall moat, or "Fosse", the project reimagines the space as a high-quality blue-green infrastructure corridor that combines sustainable drainage, biodiversity enhancement, recreation and public realm improvements in the heart of the city.

Limerick City and County Council wish to advise motorists and road users that the traffic lights at the Junction of Woodfield Estate and R522, Cork Road Newcastle Westwill be turned off from 8.30 am to 4pm on Saturday the 20th and 9.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday 21st June. There will be traffic management in operation at the junction during this time.

Limerick City and County Council Staff This Week Attended the WHO European Healthy Cities Network convened in Viana do Castelo for its Annual Business Meeting and Technical Conference.

Under the theme “Healthy Cities for Healthy Generations,” the 2026 conference explored how cities can shape environments that enable people to thrive at every stage of life – from early childhood to older age. As the first annual meeting of Phase VIII, it provided a critical platform for aligning priorities, sharing knowledge and accelerating implementation.

Limerick City and County Council is delighted to welcome athletes from across the county to the Limerick Regional Athletics Hub in Newcastle West (Eircode: V42 H796) for this weekend’s Limerick Community Games Athletics Finals 2026 (21-22 June).

This marks the first time the Limerick Regional Athletics Hub will host the finals. The event is expected to be one of the largest staged at the facility to date, bringing together hundreds of young athletes, families, volunteers and supporters from across County Limerick for a weekend celebrating sport, participation and community spirit.

Please note that a traffic management plan will be in place in the vicinity of the hub throughout the weekend.
