@SamStrongTalks@hankgreen I wouldn't interpret it that way. Hank is a smart guy, and I was simply ASKING if he would include unrealized gains. To my knowledge, he has never actually said that he would include it.
He's smart enough I'd assume he's considered a clever/equitable way to do it, so I asked.
@hankgreen Ahhh okay. Canada handles it a bit differently. Dividends and salary are taxed basically equally once you reach the highest bracket (over about 175K USD) and past a threshold, passive income (like rental) is taxed quite high. Capital gains are taxed when they are realized
@maoist3rdwrldst@benwhite1@hankgreen I pay my taxes (lots of them) and have no issue doing so.
But if I didn't make the money (the gain was never realized) and was never in a position to spend the money, why shouldn't I get a refund?

@yung__zoloft@benwhite1@hankgreen I didn't disagree with Ben. Ben and I are not arguing and both appear to agree that taxing unrealized gains would be death to small businesses.
It seems like you're talking about taxing loophole loans, which I never made any argument against.
@benwhite1@hankgreen You're 100% right. LMG likely is worth more money than I've ever made.
What if, at the end, I decided to simply fold it, or convert to a coop? Are all the taxes I paid over the years returned to me? Do I get interest on them?
@maoist3rdwrldst@hankgreen Who assesses that? With what regularity? Who pays for the assessment?
What if the owner can't afford the operate because they need to pay taxes on money that never touched their bank account?
I started a business. These might seem like small details, but they aren't.
@pckrs4 Nothing planned for the moment. My kids grew older and the amount of thought I gave to 'little kid stuff' became less and less over time. Sorry.
Idea for @Uber - free of charge
Use the accelerometers in the phones in the car to show the driver a notification if their passenger is likely to be experiencing motion sickness.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER
@sfreeman166@N3ur4l1nk@Uber Yeah the responses to this have been brain dead even by twitter standards. Nausea due to EV drivers who don't use regen properly, or even just crappy ICE drivers is 100% a 'thing', and ppl acting like this is out of left field
