@psychTJH@srp_science@UR_IDEA_Lab@AmyCarolus@GwynethDeLap @KaChangPsy @AngelaSantee Glad to hear it! That workshop (and the paper underlying it) was in part inspired by our own experiences with tough reviews, and with having to sometimes be the tough reviewers! Hoping to develop more unified standards for everyone’s benefit.
@lluaces @sadcat_labIU @IUImpact Congrats!! Sounds super interesting— I look forward to hearing about what you find. And thanks for normalizing what a long slog grant funding can be!
Wondering if you’re ready to start a clinical psych PhD? It’s competitive, which can often lead to unhelpful, advice (e.g., “work in a lab for two years”). Here’s my perspective on what makes a person ready for a funded PhD at a research univ, independent of age or stage. 🧵
I enjoyed working on this manuscript with @LaurenSHallion and the larger COVID-19 working group.
More on the way from this project!
Check out the manuscript. A key strength is repeated observations (pre and multiple times post COVID-related restrictions). Please share widely.
This new paper comes from a collab that @LaurenSHallion initiated right here on Twitter in those chaotic days when everything was just shutting down. It’s a unique dataset and it’s been a great experience. More to come!

@Philadeliberty@jmhorp Is there evidence that the increase in girls explained by increases in those states? You know that adolescent girls are at statistically the lowest risk of suicide of any age group (other than younger children) and that this is because they are less likely to use firearms?
@DerekDohrman@jmhorp I’m not a gun person at all. But if you are, there are all sorts of suicide prevention measures (safe storage etc) that save lives w/o infringing on 2nd amendment concerns. Pretending the problem doesn’t exist just leads to more suicides— esp among gun owners and their families
@DerekDohrman@jmhorp I think it’s helpful when causes make themselves so obvious— it’s so rare in the prediction of low base rate complex behavioral phenotypes. The data are very clear that gun ownership tracks with suicide.
